CRIME-FRAUD EXCEPTION: Federal Judge rules against Trump's bid for January 6th coverup with lawyer

U.S. District Judge David Carter minced no words in his decision on whether the January 6th Select Committee can get their hands on more of John Eastman’s records.

John Eastman, former Trump lawyer — and a key player in what we now know was a far wider conspiracy than originally thought — sent detailed emails to former Vice President Pence’s lawyer Greg Jacob.

Leaked in early March, they were detailed in a court filing that accused Eastman’s emails, with their lies and attempts to alter state election results, of being part of a “criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States.” The committee also wrote in the filing:

“The evidence has accumulated, points to Trump and his allies illegally obstructed an official proceeding.”

These were damning emails that saw Eastman repeatedly urging Jacob to convince his client to “go along” with the plan, where Eastman also admitted that Pence overturning the election results would be a “violation of the Electoral Count Act”.

Thankfully, neither Jacob nor Pence went along.

Judge Carter went even further than the Committee in his rebuke.  Invoking the country’s very first president, and founding father, in his 44-page decision:

“The illegality of the plan was obvious. Our nation was founded on the peaceful transition of power, epitomized by George Washington laying down his sword to make way for democratic elections. Ignoring this history, President Trump vigorously campaigned for the Vice {reside to single handedly determine the 2020 election.”

After what has seemed like an eternity, the wheels of justice appear to be turning at a more vigorous pace. In less than a month, we have seen the January 6th Committees filing, Eastman’s emails, and judge after judge has been blocking Trump’s attempts to escape accountability for inciting what is the worst attack on our democratic system in recent history.

Add the revealing of incriminating text messages from sitting SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife — urging then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to do something about the impending certification. Ginny Thomas’ almost 30 texts to Meadows ranged from panic to unhinged, calling the certification of President Joe Biden the “greatest Heist of our History” and saying it felt like  the “end of America.”

Unhinged or not, they were no less dangerous. Less than two months later, Thomas would be at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. It has been reported that she provided over 80 buses to bring in Trump supporters and future insurrectionists.

The January 6th Committee has no real legal jurisdiction, no way to give The Former Guy the justice that 81 million Biden voters feel is long overdue. But hopefully, this is a wake-up call for Attorney General Merrick Garland to get a move on.

The evidence is there — and with the 2022 mid-terms around the corner — the clock is ticking.
