WHODUNNIT? GOP clamors for names in Cawthorn "Orgy-gate" accusations

The GOP muck has finally hit the fan for Madison Cawthorn.

In an interview on the right-wing podcast Warrior Poet Society, Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) dropped an unexpected bombshell — accusations of a sex and drug-filled atmosphere within his political circle, throwing his GOP colleagues under the proverbial, if not literal, bus. As one might expect, they are none too pleased.

Now, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he will address the issue with Cawthorn.

With calls to “name names” from his colleague Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Cawthorn’s feet are being held to the transparency fire by other Republicans. This is a rarity for any member of the GOP.

Even former View host, Meghan McCain chimed in, insinuating that those Cawthorn is referring to must be MAGA.

Well, if Meghan McCain is asking – it’s a must. Isn’t it?

A caucus meeting of House Republicans had many of Cawthorn’s colleagues speaking up to address the issue. The sexcapade-accusing Representative skipped the caucus.

According to Politico’s Olivia Beavers, even the usually quiet Steve Womack (R-AR) felt compelled to say his peace. Standing up before his party, the Republican demanded answers at the insistence of his constituents back home demanding answers.

Cawthorn doesn’t have much GOP support at this point.

Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) told Manu Raju of CNN that the Congressman representing a district in Burr’s home state has “been an embarrassment at times.”

By embarrassment, Burr should be referring to the Republican Party, although I think many would argue that, after Trump’s election in 2016, the “embarrassment” ship sailed long ago.

Cover-up specialist Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) refused to defend Cawthorn’s alleged sexcapades, telling The Daily Beast that he doesn’t “know anything about what Madison referenced”

Even the perennial front runner for dumbest Congressman, Texas Republican Louis Gohmert called the North Carolina freshman’s remarks “bizarre.”

Cawthorn is facing pressure from all sides now, inside and outside the party. He’s up for re-election in a state that has grown increasingly intolerant and impatient with his representation.

Former classmates, present colleagues — even the Durham Herald-Sun newspaper — publicly criticized Cawthorn. That was for his inflammatory rhetoric, but I imagine the latest scandal surrounding the Congressman will only add fuel to the fire.

So far, Congressman Cawthorn has avoided adding any more to his accusations. No people, places, or times have been revealed. The buzz isn’t likely to die down anytime soon.

Time to put up, or shut up — though I imagine some may come to regret asking. The old term “be careful what you wish for”, comes to mind.
