Insulin has become prohibitively expensive over the last few years, with users reporting spending over $2,000 a month on the life-saving drug for diabetics. One in four Americans has rationed insulin to save cash.
The House of Representatives just voted for a bill that caps the price of insulin at $35 for Americans that have health insurance, and 193 (out of only 211) House Republicans voted against the bill. While insulin should rightfully be free for all the diabetics who need it, this is a major improvement over the status quo.
A tiny majority of House Republicans — just twelve of them — broke rank and voted with Democrats for the life-saving piece of legislation. Alleged pedophile Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was not one of the few empathetic Republicans.
the number of diabetes cases in the U.S. has nearly doubled. The demand for insulin has increased and the requisite price increase has followed suit. In other words, the price of insulin increases as waistlines increase. (9/10)

What is Matt Gaetz’s message to diabetes patients? Lose weight.
The same Matt Gaetz who pretends to be a populist while standing up to big tech and “woke corporations,” just did big pharmaceutical companies a solid by not just voting against lower drug prices for a life-saving drug, but then also treating those patients with pure contempt.
In his newsletter, Gaetz actually says higher insulin prices are the fault of obese people and not due to corporate greed from big pharma. He writes that insulin’s cost “increases as waistlines increase.”
It doesn’t matter to Gaetz that one in five American diabetics who take insulin would save money under the proposal passed by the House of Representatives. He can’t help but do what he was sent to Congress to do — shill for big corporations and the powerful.
When making his offensive and moronic argument, Gaetz ignores that while type 2 diabetes is tied to obesity, it’s also tied to other causes like genetics, genetic mutations, hormonal diseases, certain medicines, and damage to the pancreas. Type 1 diabetes is likely caused by genetics and environmental factors.
Weight and obesity seem to be an obsession for Gaetz, who once took a mean pot-shot at Jerry Nadler for his struggles with weight loss and said he didn’t “fit in” with other members of Congress because most of them are old, obese people. Most of them aren’t accused of engaging in pedophilic behavior either, unlike Gaetz.
Gaetz hides his scorn for Americans who struggle with weight loss and defends his shilling for corporate power by pretending to be against big government.
“I will not see a reemergence of FDR price controls and join the Democrats in their attempt to pave the Road to Serfdom”, he wrote.
Aside from FDR being one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history — and the New Deal being one of the most celebrated sets of policies that allowed working people to live dignified lives — what Gaetz is saying is nonsensical and idiotic. Regulating big pharma from price gouging on life-saving drugs is not paving the “road to serfdom”. It’s common sense and the humane thing to do.
