WAY OFF BASE: Marjorie Taylor Greene is angry about white supremacy but not the way you’d think

It used to be a generally accepted principle that white supremacy was a reprehensible ideology that should be condemned and eliminated. Unfortunately, that was before the rise of Donald Trump and his deplorable acolytes like Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
The Georgia lawmaker has been a vociferous defender of bigoted right-wing rhetoric since she arrived on the national scene in 2020 and now apparently feels no compunction about espousing positions that would have had her expelled from polite society as an unrepentant racist in less contentious times.
This week, Greene used her social media platform — the live webcast MTG Live — to make a gob-smacking lament that Democrats in Congress had the audacity to attack white supremacy in the wake of the mass murder of 10 Black Americans at a Tops Supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
Greene’s complaint came in the context of a rant targeting efforts to pass common-sense gun legislation that would address the epidemic of gun violence in America. The extremist congresswoman was predicting a totalitarian future for the nation if background checks and gun registrations were enacted and raised the specter of a federal surveillance system akin to China’s high-tech social monitoring systems taking hold in America.
“Maybe one day we’re going to be like the people in China, where we have to have all of our information put into a QR code and they track everything about it,” Greene speculated. “And then maybe they decide something like this, maybe they say, ‘Well, you know, there are certain races in America that we consider to be domestic terrorists.'”
“That’s what Democrats were talking about just a few weeks ago in Congress,” Greene transitioned, “when they were saying that white supremacy is domestic terrorism and the biggest threat to America today.”
That’s right, Marjorie Taylor Greene just contradicted Attorney General Merrick Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas who told the Senate last May that the most significant domestic terror threat came from “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists,” i.e. White supremacists.

It seems that within Greene’s Bizarro World, it is the federal government, not white supremacy that poses the biggest threat to America right now.
“That is the biggest threat because they are completely doing everything they can to run our country into the ground,” Greene explained. “They are taking away our rights as fast as possible and they are ruining Americans’ ability to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.”
It’s difficult to imagine a more topsy-turvy take on White supremacy, gun rights, and the role of the federal government than what Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is promoting on her webcast of misinformation and morally despicable opinions.
