Vets for Trump co-founder Joshua Macias was just hit with a new indictment that adds contempt of court to his previous charges of Criminal Conspiracy, Attempted Interference with Primaries and Elections, Hindering the Performance of a Duty, and Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act to an increasing list of criminal actions. Originally arrested in November 2020, and currently out on bail, Virginia’s Joshua Macias has been captured on camera multiple times violating the terms of his conditional release since then.

Sparverius CEO – and self-proclaimed “fascist hunter” Kristofer Goldsmith tweeted:

Goldsmith has been keeping track of Macias’ actions since his Vets for Trump Facebook page was taken over by foreigners pushing propaganda and misinformation. After a failed attempt at conspiring to help foreign interference in the 2020 election, Macias was arrested two days after election day when Philadelphia police arrested then-42-year-old along with 61-year-old Antonio Lamotta outside the city’s convention center where ballots were still being counted. The pair were armed with a cache of weapons – including a military-style assault rifle, 160 rounds of ammunition, and two handguns.

The Daily Beast reported the ex-Navy veteran was released a month later and attended the Freedom Rally held at the Capitol on  January 6th. It was Macias’ actions the evening before the insurrection, however, that inspired Philadelphia’s District Attorney to add the additional charge of contempt of court. A video shows Macias meeting in a parking garage with Proud Boys leader, Enrique Tarrio and Oath Keepers founder, Stewart Rhodes, both of whom currently remain jailed on charges of seditious conspiracy for their roles in the violent attack on the United States Capitol.

Joshua Macias is the kind of person who has been known to spout QAnon conspiracy theories with a straight face, and his connection to both the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers could be a dangerous one. Macias could be seen at the Capitol on January 6th calling for then-President Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act, which increasingly seems to have been part of Trump’s plan to foment an actual violent coup. Several Oath Keepers, who took plea deals, admitted in their testimony that the militia group was waiting on Trump to order martial law. They even kept weapons in a stash across the river, outside Washington D.C. city limits, to be easily accessible once Trump issued the order.

Macias and his group Vets for Trump have been fervent supporters of Trump through the years and they can be seen in 2018 at events at Trump’s former Washington D.C. hotel. Below, he’s pictured with Trump’s 2016 campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who was fired during the Republican primary and disavowed by Trump allies after allegations Lewandowski made sexual advances toward a Trump donor in 2021.

Macias appears to have become a lot more radicalized in the time between 2018 and now – with no signs of remorse or retreat. After Macias was arrested for attempting to interfere with a legal vote count, he participated in an attempted coup and was videotaped with known violent seditionists. These latest charges are the final straw. It is beyond the time for a judge – in the interest of both safety and justice – to revoke Macias’ bail and put him in prison with the other violent seditionists awaiting trial.
