Virginia “Ginni” Thomas has agreed to sit down with the January 6th Committee. Per Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS), a letter was sent to the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas requesting a word with her to talk about her role in trying to overturn the 2020 election. Originally believed to play a non-consequential part in the planning of the January 6th, 2021 insurrection, new evidence suggests that Ms. Thomas may have actually played a major role in the conspiracy.
According to Ginni Thomas, she’s “looking forward to it.” The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer tweeted:

In March, it was discovered that Mrs. Thomas sent 29 text messages to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows about the election being “stolen.” She referred to the most secure election in U.S. history as “the greatest Heist of our History,” quoting QAnon conspiracy theories and sounding more crazy than criminal.
The Washington Post‘s Olivier Knox shared a copy of one of the more unhinged texts:
“Biden crime family & ballot fraud co-conspirators (elected officials, bureaucrats, social media censorship mongers, fake stream media reporters, etc) are being arrested and detained for ballot fraud right now & over coming days & will be living in barges off GITMO to face military tribunals for sedition.”
It was a text that suggested an extraordinary detachment from reality for the wife of the Supreme Court Justice and seemed to point more to the looney bin than a prison cell.
But that changed when CNN recently reported that Ginni Thomas tried to pressure 29 Arizona lawmakers to overturn their state’s results by sending messages, form letters, and pre-written emails to legislators in both the State House and Senate, urging them to “fight back against fraud.” Shawnna Bolick, the wife of Arizona Supreme Court Justice Clint Bolick, tweeted a copy of an email that references Ginni Thomas’ efforts – though she dismisses them as illegal. It should be noted that Shawnna Bolick is running for Arizona Secretary of State.
The dishonest media wants to distract attention from election fraud & our efforts to secure elections. Let’s cut through the conjecture & put this to bed. Here is the public records request from @WashingtonPost & my emails, which show me responding as I would to any constituent. https://t.co/PvZUZ10s6t pic.twitter.com/MpdLMh1j4x

In the committee’s ongoing investigation, emails between Ginni Thomas and former Trump attorney John Eastman were revealed. These prompted investigators of the January 6th Capitol riot to request Ginni’s presence. Eastman’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election are widely known and amount to “conspiracy” in the words of Federal Judge David Carter. Eastman tried, unsuccessfully, to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to not count the electoral votes from battleground states — all while knowing that it would be illegal to do so.
Trump’s attempts to block the release of White House call logs six months ago were rejected by the Supreme Court. Interestingly, Clarence Thomas cast the only dissenting vote. Eastman, who clerked for Justice Thomas, conducted email correspondence with pro-Trump attorney Kenneth Cheseboro in the weeks leading up to Jan. 6th. The day before Christmas, Eastman claimed to have inside knowledge of a “heated fight” between Supreme Court justices on whether they should take Trump’s case related to his attempts to overturn the election results.
“So the odds are not based on the legal merits but an assessment of the justice’s spines, and I understand that there is a heated fight underway. For those willing to do their duty, we should help them by giving them a Wisconsin cert petition to add into the mix,” Eastman wrote, according to The New York Times.
According to the Times, Cheseboro alluded to instilling “fear” in the justices, with threats of “chaos” on Jan. 6th if they failed to rule in Trump’s favor. This account begs the question, how would Eastman know about internal disagreements between members of the Supreme Court? Enter Ginni Thomas.
Knowing what we know now about Eastman – between his emails and testimony before the January 6th Select Committee – and what we know about Ginni Thomas’ involvement in trying to overturn the election, it’s safe to say that, given her correspondence with the key orchestrator of the coup plot, her upcoming testimony will be just the beginning of unraveling the complicity and involvement of Ms. Thomas.
