GIDDY: Testimony reveals Rudy Giuliani was excited about potential January 6th violence

In today’s House Select Committee hearing, Cassidy Hutchinson testifies that Rudy Giuliani knew there was potential for violence on January 6th – and was excited about it. Hutchinson recounted a meeting with Trump’s disgraced former attorney had with her former boss, then-White House Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows. On the evening of January 2nd – four days before the attack on the Capitol – Hutchinson talked with Giuliani while walking him to his car. When he asked the aide if she was ready for January 6th, Giuliani said:

“Cass, are you excited? For the 6th? It’s going to be great. The President’s going to be there. He’s going to look powerful. He’s going to be with the members, he’s going to be with the Senators. Talk to the chief about it. Talk to the chief about it. He knows about it.”

When Ms. Hutchinson asked Meadows what Guiliani was referring to, her boss simply replied “There’s a lot going on Cass. But I don’t know. Things might get real, real bad on January 6th.”

In November 2021, The Guardian reported Trump made multiple calls on January 5th to the Willard Hotel in Washington D.C. – home base for those plotting ways to stop the electoral count scheduled for the next day. Included was Rudy Giuliani, acting as Trump’s lead attorney and overseeing a so-called “War Room”

John Eastman, Steve Bannon, and Roger Stone were also present – and all presumably up to no good. Giuliani instructed Trump to make separate calls between his lawyers and “lieutenants” at the hotel to protect attorney-client privilege, but Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-NY) – a member of the select committee said, “The attorney-client privilege does not operate to shield participants in a crime from an investigation into a crime.” And criming Trump was.

The investigation also revealed Giuliani’s role in formulating the “Big Lie.” Despite Trump’s Attorney General Bill Barr, campaign manager Bill Stepien, and campaign adviser Jason Miller all advising Trump NOT to declare victory, it was Rudy Giuliani – a reportedly drunk Giuliani – who urged the opposite. He told Trump what he wanted to hear — which was all the narcissistic insurrectionist needed.

Giuliani continued to push baseless and unsubstantiated claims of election fraud – losing his law license because of it – and made a fool of himself in the process. Hopefully, today’s testimony shed new light on Giuliani’s involvement and he will now get the accountability he deserves for his participation in tearing this country —  and its democracy — apart.
