Donald Trump doesn’t like what Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WI) has been saying about him lately, particularly the part about the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection possibly making a criminal referral to the Justice Department for Trump’s activities.
Cheney told ABC News on Sunday that the committee would soon make a decision regarding whether to make just such a referral, inspiring an epic rant in response from Trump in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“Warmongering and despicable human being Liz Cheney, who is hated by the great people of Wyoming (down 35!), keeps saying, over and over again, that HER Fake Unselect Committee may recommend CRIMINAL CHARGES against a President of the United States who got more votes than any sitting President in history,” Trump began his vitriolic reply to the Wyoming GOP legislator.
“Even the Dems didn’t know what she was talking about!” he continued. “Why doesn’t she press charges instead against those that cheated on the Election, or those that didn’t properly protect the Capitol?”
Trump has particular antipathy towards Cheney and the only other Republican serving on the House Select Committee, Congressman Adam Kinzinger, both of whom voted to impeach Trump in his second impeachment, although Trump managed to accuse them of also voting for his first impeachment as well — even though they did not — and of being responsible for the Justice Department investigating his campaign’s ties to Russia.
“Why doesn’t the highly partisan Unselect Committee of political Thugs, the same people (all Trump haters & profiteers – books, speeches, etc.) that were involved with Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax # 2, the ‘No Collusion’ Mueller Report and, overall, the GREATEST WITCH HUNT IN THE HISTORY OF THE USA, go after the people who have been rioting, burning down cities, leading the massive crime wave, & killing many all over the U.S., including drug & human traffickers?” Trump screamed in his post. “No, let’s get ‘Trump’!”
Trump always seems to try to deflect accountability for his own misbehavior by pointing the finger elsewhere, but the time may have finally come where that strategy no longer works. The investigation by the House Committee co-chaired by his Republican nemesis, Liz Cheney, has uncovered too much evidence of his crimes for the Justice Department to continue to ignore, whether the Committee officially sends a criminal referral or not.
