Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis won’t rule out subpoenaing President Donald Trump in her investigation of attempts to overturn Georgia’s results in the 2020 election. After issuing subpoenas to those accused of co-conspiring with the then-still President, there’s only one way to go – up.
Willis told NBC’s Blayne Alexander, “We’ll just have to see where the investigation leads to.”
NEWS: In her 1st interview since yesterday's subpoenas, Fulton Co. DA Fani Willis tells me to expect more subpoenas of Trump associates in the coming weeks.
Notably – she does NOT rule out a of subpoena of Trump himself.
Her response to me: "anything's possible"

Earlier in the week, news broke that several former Trump attorneys – including Jenna Ellis, Rudy Giuliani, Kenneth Cheseboro, and John Eastman – had been subpoenaed by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office. All are scheduled to testify by July 12, less than a week away. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was also summoned over several phone calls he made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger – allegedly trying to get the Republican election official to “toss out” legally cast mail-in ballots.
Moving swiftly since being given the go-ahead to convene, the 26-person special grand jury began hearing testimony in June. Central to the DA’s investigation, and just days after fighting off a Trump-backed primary opponent, Raffensperger was first to testify.

Though the Secretary of State is central to Willis’ move toward an indictment, the Jan. 6th televised hearings have pushed the focused District Attorney to issue more subpoenas. According to her interview with Blayne Alexander, more are coming. Between emails, phone calls, and witnesses, the evidence against Trump is piling up and is irrefutable. In an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in February 2021, Willis likened the investigation of Trump to “peeling back an onion.” She told Maddow:
“To be a responsible prosecutor you must look at all of those things in the investigation… It seems that the investigation will go past this one phone call.”
D.A. Willis: Detailed facts become important, like asking for a specific number and then going back to investigate and understand that that number is just one more than the number that is needed. Trump, and his allies, have repeatedly accused Fulton County’s probe of being a “witch hunt” and politically motivated. According to Willis, she has nothing to gain. And to those who may think she’s engaging in performative antics, in District Attorney’s words, “This is not a game.”
