BOMBSHELL: Liz Cheney reveals potential Trump witness tampering attempt

Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) likes to drop little bombshells in her closing remarks as vice-chair of the hearings being held by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection. Today, that blockbuster revelation included a reference to having forwarded to the Department of Justice evidence that Donald Trump attempted to contact a witness scheduled to testify before the committee in what Cheney saw as an obvious attempt at witness interference and possible intimidation.

Cheney specifically mentioned that the witness in question is one that the public has not yet seen as part of their televised public hearings and that the attempt to contact them happened since the last of the committee’s public hearings.

Rather than speak with the disgraced former president, the witness instead informed their own lawyer of Trump’s efforts to speak with them. That attorney then notified the committee, who were concerned enough to forward the details of Trump’s contact with the witness to the Justice Department for consideration.

“Let me say one more time: We will take any effort to influence witness testimony very seriously,” Cheney told Trump and the public in her closing remarks.

It is unknown at this point exactly what the Justice Department plans to do with the referral from the House Select Committee, but federal witness tampering laws call for a maximum punishment is 20 years in federal prison for intimidation, threats, or corrupt persuasion involving witnesses, victims, or informants.

Cheney’s last-minute bombshell came after the committee heard details of the “unhinged” planning of the January 6th march on the Capitol and Trump’s personal involvement in singling out Mike Pence as a target for his followers’ violent anger.

Judging from Cheney’s tease of what the public will learn from the next set of televised hearings, the evidence against Donald Trump is mounting and the Justice Department will soon be forced to act.

Stay tuned when the next set of hearings recommences next week.
