UNWANTED: Latest Marjorie Taylor Greene statement is her worst yet

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) says she would be in favor of a total abortion ban, even in cases of rape. In an interview on Saturday, the podcast host asked her, “Do you think abortion should be banned totally?”

Greene’s response?  “God has a plan for them, even if they’re unwanted.”

Double downing on her reasoning, the freshman congresswoman went on to say:

“Even if they came out of a horrible rape or something. I truly believe there’s a reason for them.”

No stranger to controversy or making outlandish statements, her comments shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone familiar with Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Here’s a clip of the video below:

The Georgia representative has been vocal and, in her words, “unapologetic” about her anti-abortion stance. After the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Mississippi overturned Roe. v. Wade, Greene tweeted that if you are pregnant, “God will provide for you.”

“If you are pregnant, God made you completely capable to be a mother, and he will provide for you as you strive in life and become a mother.”

While God may “provide,” according to Greene – Congress has failed in that regard.

On the day The Supreme Court overturned a woman’s constitutionally protected right to safe and legal abortion, Berkley professor and former Labor Secretary Robert Reich reminded the public that the U.S. has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among high-income nations.

Greene’s home state of Georgia was once considered the “most dangerous state for pregnant women,” according to Grady Newsource and the University of Georgia. Between 2013 and 2017, the peachtree state’s maternal mortality rate was more than double the national average – with 66.3 deaths per 100,000 live births vs. 29.6 per 100,000 live births everywhere else.

Georgia Department of Health study says 60% of those deaths are preventable.

With a straight face, Greene told her interviewer, “Even if I became President, even if I created world peace–there’s nothing I could ever do in my life that would be better than being a mom.”

Considering she appears more as a punchline on Twitter than in photos with her kids – I’m going to give that statement the same credibility and weight as her claim that Jewish Space Lasers are responsible for the California wildfires.
