HOUSE DIVIDED: George Conway reminds us Trump told his wife he lost the election

George Conway threw his wife, the former Senior Counselor to ex-President Trump, Kellyanne Conway under the bus – again. This time highlighting a page in White House Bureau Chief Jonathan Lemire’s new book, The Big Lie: Election Chaos, Political Opportunism, and the State of American Politics After 2020, where the journalist details the moment Trump admitted defeat to his wife.

On page 128, Lemire writes:

“But off camera, he took a slightly different tone, even wondering aloud to Kellyanne Conway how he could “lose to fucking Joe Biden,” in what she took as a sign that he understood, deep down, that he had been defeated, even if he was not ready to say so publicly.”

It’s something that Conway said in a tweet he posted that should “suffice” in showing Trump’s “criminal intent.”

A lifelong Republican, George Conway publicly turned on Trump early in his administration, vocally criticizing his wife’s boss, and detailing his crimes in the White House. Conway was also a member of the anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project – who actively campaigned against the then-President and his sycophants, and who backed Joe Biden for President.

That Kellyanne Conway was an active member of Trump’s White House staff at the time left many questioning how the couple’s relationship worked, being on opposing ends of the Trump spectrum.

In her 2022 book Here’s the Deal, Kellyanne Conway praises her former boss for defending her in the media and criticizes her husband for not being as supportive.

“One of those men was defending me. And it wasn’t George Conway. It was Donald Trump,” Kellyanne wrote.

Mrs. Conway called her husband’s actions against the ex-President “sinister,” writing that “George would be just steps away from me, tucked away in his home office, plotting against my boss and me.”

As far as Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen in favor of Biden, Kellyanne Conway acknowledges her boss’s defeat, his slim chance at winning in court, and the complicity of those around him who also knew he lost.

“By not confronting their candidate with the grim reality of his situation, that the proof had not surfaced to support the claims, they denied him the evidence he sought and the respect he was due. Instead, supplicant after sycophant after showman genuflected in front of the Resolute Desk and promised the president goods they could not deliver,” the former advisor wrote.

It’s pretty clear where Kellyanne Conway’s loyalty still lies, and it isn’t with George. Though it doesn’t appear that he cares. It’s the kind of loyalty that just may earn her a subpoena, and an appearance before the Jan. 6 Select Committee.
