OWNED: Teen activist humiliates Matt Gaetz after his attempt to body shame her backfires spectacularly

When Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) picked 19-year-old abortion rights activist Olivia Julianna to attack – he picked poorly. His body shaming of Julianna in a tweet that he posted backfired, with the Texas teenager raising tens of thousands of dollars for her abortion fund in less than a day because of the Republican congressman’s shameful attacks

The young activist ironically thanked Gaetz for his “support” of abortion rights on Twitter.

That number has now grown to over half a million dollars donated.

During his vile speech at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit, Gaetz called women who seek an abortion “unattractive,” and asked:

“Why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions? Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb.”

Rep. Gaetz characterized abortion rights activists as being 5’2 and 350 pounds, adding “You look like you got ankles weaker than the legal reasoning behind Roe v. Wade.”

Those remarks prompted Julianna to tweet “I’m actually 5’11. 6’4 in heels. I wear them so the small men like you are reminded of your place.”

Julianna is a member of Gen Z for Change, a 500-person youth-led group that uses social media to bring awareness and encourage action in areas most affecting their generation, issues like climate change, reproductive rights, autonomy, LGBTQIA+, and voting rights, according to their website.

Gaetz hasn’t responded to Julianna publicly, but according to the young activist his comms team wrote, “with Roe v. Wade overturned, America is now a pro-life nation. No amount of solicitations will change that.”

The $250,000 raised in less than 48 hours says otherwise.

The amount of money raised in just a short amount of time shows the impact social media can have and —when used for something positive – great things can happen. Kudos to Olivia Julianna for using her platform to turn something ugly into something hopeful. Commenting on being singled out by the congressman, Olivia said “Matt Gaetz attacked me not realizing that I’m Texas tough.”

You would think someone under investigation for child sex trafficking would want to pick their battles and sit this one out. But then again, this is the same man who allegedly used Venmo to pay an underage girl for sex – self-awareness and good judgment are obviously not in Gaetz’s wheelhouse.
