OPINION: I don't care if Trump is a former President. No one is above the law

So much has happened in the last week that’s been revealed from the raid of Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago. Items like nuclear weapons documents are suspected to have been found, and today we find out that Trump is also being investigated for espionage and obstruction of justice.

Numerous political commentators and politicians are hesitant about any potential indictment of Trump because of the precedent that an indicted former President would set. They may also be afraid of a retaliation response from Trump supporters led by terrorist organizations like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers.

And I, a veteran who took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States from enemies foreign and domestic, say that I don’t give a fuck. I don’t care if he’s a former President nor do I care what the reaction of his cult will be.

We are a country governed by the rule of law, under the principle that all men are created equal. A country that says no one is above the law. And because of these principles, after Trump goes through due process, he must be indicted, prosecuted, and sent to prison.

Throughout American history, citizens of this great country of ours have dealt with harsher punishments for crimes that are less severe than the crimes Trump has committed.

I’ve said this before and I will say it again. If Trump walks free that will set an even more dangerous precedent than the indictment of a former president because future presidents will feel if Trump was able to get away with breaking the law, so can they.

We don’t know to whom Trump has shown these nuclear weapons documents, but it is telling that he is now being investigated for espionage, as well as obstruction.

Donald Trump is a national security threat and the Department of Justice must speed up the indictment and prosecution process so he will be unable to run for President in 2024.

What kind of message will it send to the world if we allow a candidate with this many potential indictments to run for office?
