INSANITY: Michigan GOP Gov. candidate’s teen rape comments draw disbelief and outrage

Tudor Dixon, the GOP frontrunner for the Michigan governorship, says that teen victims of sexual assault are the “perfect example” of why abortion should be illegal.

“Perfect example,” said Dixon. “Because I know people who are the product, a life is a life for me, That is for me. That’s my feeling.”

In an interview to clarify her now-viral answer, Dixon said – when asked why a 14-year-old rape victim should be denied an abortion – that having the baby would be a “healing” event.

“I’ve talked to some other legislators about this and they’ve met the same people that  I’ve met who’ve told their story of once this child knew, they were in their second or third trimester and I am that child, you know. That I’ve talked to those people who were the child of a rape victim and the bond that those two people made. And the fact that out of that tragedy there was healing through that baby.”

Dixon is in favor of upholding Michigan’s 1931 law banning abortion without exceptions. According to Click on Detroit Local 4a local poll revealed that over 2/3 of Michigan Republicans support exceptions:

“In the most recent Local4/Detroit News poll, 68% of Republican voters said they supported exceptions for abortion in cases of rape and incest. Seventy-one percent of self-described classic Republicans and 57% of self-described Donald Trump Republicans also supported exceptions.”

In July, 750,000 signatures were turned in to put the abortion question on the ballot.

For the past two years, Dixon has pushed the big lie – spreading baseless claims of mass voter fraud and rejecting her own party’s majority report that explicitly stated there was “no evidence of widespread or systemic fraud.” She accused members of the Senate Oversight Committee of “misleading [their] viewers.”

A former anchor on the far-right Real America News outlet, Dixon made a career out of false claims that the 2020 election was stolen prior to joining the race to become Michigan’s next governor.

After Kansas voters overwhelmingly voted to protect the right to abortion, the fact that Dixon is running on a platform that goes against what the majority of Republican voters in her state believe may not be the best path to victory.

If this is the best that Republicans have to offer, Michigan should expect another Democrat to lead their state.
