OPINION: Liz Cheney loss means the Constitutional Conservative is officially dead

OPINION: If Republican Liz Cheney can support the Blue Wave, so can you

If you had any doubt that the Republican Party of old is dead and long gone, the last two Republican primaries were the nail in the coffin. Especially given the fact that Liz Cheney is an ideal conservative who voted to implement 90 percent of Trump’s policies and even voted for Trump in both elections.

But because she upheld her oath of office defending the Constitution and our democracy, she gets voted out of office after losing the Wyoming GOP primary.

Today’s Republicans believe that a lie is an opposing political view, but Liz Cheney knew that’s not how politics work. It’s disgusting to see how she and Adam Kinzinger were treated by Kevin McCarthy and the rest of the Republican Party.

They were censured by Kevin McCarthy and harassed and threatened by Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, all just for protecting our Democracy. Trump himself got involved in the fracas by endorsing Cheney’s opponent.

I realized how bad the Republican Party was when I learned their platform is based on lies, even before I stopped my support for Trump, but never in a million years would I ever think that my former Party would attack our Constitution, our Democracy, even the rule of law institutions like the FBI.

I am livid that the Republican Party is making this criminal, Donald Trump,  a victim, and that anyone who defies him will be ridiculed and punished.

I should have seen this with the way John McCain was treated, but my ignorant, close-minded self at that time ignored it because I felt it was a “sin” for any Republican to work with Democrats in any capacity.

How could conservative voters turn their backs on the principles they claim to value?  How could they abandon the Constitution just because they “feel” Trump speaks for them?

As Trumpism takes over the Republican Party, we must do everything we can to get Democrats elected. This country will not be able to survive under fascism if we lose the midterms.
