ACCOUNTABILITY: Uvalde school district gives entire police force the boot
After nearly five months of hemming and hawing after the Robb Elementary School tragedy, the Uvalde school district has officially suspended the district’s entire law enforcement police force, as well as two school officials. The decision was made after parents of the Uvalde shooting victims staged a sit-in protest outside of the school district’s office that lasted a staggering 245 hours.

“The District has made the decision to suspend all activities of the Uvalde CISD Police Department for a period of time. Officers currently employed will fill other roles in the district,” the district said in a statement.
“The District has requested the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide additional troopers for campus and extra-curricular activities,” the district said. “We are confident that staff and student safety will not be compromised during this transition.”
The announcement came after CNN reported that newly-hired school officer, Crimson Elizondo, is under investigation for her handling of the massacre that left 19 elementary school children and two adults dead.
Over 300 law enforcement officials responded to the active shooting – waiting over an hour to de-escalate the situation and intervene.

“Sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to CNN that Elizondo is one of seven officers whose conduct is being investigated by DPS, but neither their names nor their conduct during the response been made public,” CNN reported.
Footage from body armor worn by officers on the scene shows Elizondo waiting outside – despite being one of the first law enforcement officials to arrive at the scene, following none of the training local police officers were given.

The wagons are circling around the officers on site, with USISD police chief Pedro “Pete” Arrendondo already offered up as a tribute – he was fired in August. But the firing of the school district’s police force is just a step in the direction of accountability, responsibility, and a semblance of justice for the grieving parents left to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts.
