BAD JUDGMENT: Ohio GOP Senate candidate JD Vance says conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is "reputable"

In what is probably one of the most “WTF” moments of the day, a tweet resurfaced in which Ohio Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance hails Alex Jones as a “reputable source of information,” just hours after a Connecticut jury issued a nearly billion-dollar judgment against the InfoWars host for defamation and spreading misinformation about the Sandy Hook massacre.

The Hillbilly Elegy author and Republican candidate for the United States Senate’s “ringing endorsement” of a known liar isn’t surprising since Vance himself is not known for his scrupulous dedication to the truth.

In a 2021 interview with Fox News’s Brian Kilmeade, the author addressed the controversy surrounding his statements telling the host, “I was just kind of trolling everybody.” But he went on to show support for the unapologetic conspiracy theorist as “a guy who says some crazy stuff, but he also says things that are occasionally interesting.” Vance went all in on his mental gymnastics, claiming Maddow was the true conspiracy theory propagandist, telling Kilmead:

“While Maddow is a person who has fallen for every conspiracy theory, every hoax, that has been popular in left wing circles and people assume she is reputable source of information.”

A recent debate against his Democratic opponent Tim Ryan left Vance scrambling after the savvy — and very prepared — Ryan crushed the West Coast elitist with facts, on facts, on facts. Backed by far-right tech billionaire Peter Thiel, Vance attempted to paint himself as an “everyday American,” despite traveling in less than inclusionary circles.

Vance also campaigned on solving Ohio’s opioid crisis – going so far as to form a company devoted to it – only to abandon that mission to “focus” instead on his political ambitions after securing the nomination.

Vance even hired a Big Pharma shill to head his “project,” someone who downplayed the effects of opioid addiction caused by drug companies.

Endorsed by ex-president Donald Trump, J.D. Vance has taken on the Trumpian approach to politics – gaslight, deflect, accuse. And when that doesn’t work, play the victim. With the midterm election less than 3o days away, it’s time to expose the GOP for who and what they are at every turn.

After today’s judgment again Alex Jones, what the talk show host is gonna need now more than ever is cold, hard cash, not an endorsement. Especially not from a man who said that a wife should stay in an abusive marriage.
