HOW A LEADER ACTS: Video reveals House Speaker Pelosi took charge during the Capitol attack, saving democracy

UNEMOTIONAL: Video reveals House Speaker Pelosi took charge during the Capitol attack, saving democracy

Previously unseen video footage shows House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), third in the line of succession, stepping up during the January 6th attack on the Capitol, taking control when both Donald Trump and Mike Pence were missing in action. The former reportedly watched the violence unfold while refusing to act, and the latter was literally on the run.

At the most recent televised hearing of the congressional investigative panel, the public got to see exactly what the 82-year-old Speaker of the House was doing while an angry mob was headed her way – and it was more than anyone thought. While Capitol Police and Metro PD officers were holding the crowd outside, Pelosi upheld her duty to the constitution and the American people by trying to secure national guard help from neighboring states from an undisclosed and secure location.

In a call with then-Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (D), Pelosi inquired about the legality of the District of Columbia’s neighbor’s sending guard troops into another jurisdiction without the approval of the federal government. Describing the scene as she watched it unfold on a monitor, Pelosi told Northam, “It’s just horrendous. And all at the instigation of the President of the United States.”

Let that sink in.

But neither shock, disbelief nor anger would keep her from doing her duty.

Remaining calm under the chaos and impending violence, Rep. Pelosi not only upheld her oath, but she also served her country while the commander-in-chief was facilitating the destruction of it. As terrifying as the moment must have been, it didn’t prevent Madame Speaker from voicing her rising anger at what was happening.

When Pelosi was told then-President Trump would not be marching to the Capitol with the mob due to USSS concerns about his safety, she told her Chief of Staff Terri McCullough:

I hope he comes, I’m gonna punch him out. I’ve been waiting for this…for trespassing on the Capitol grounds. I wanna punch him out, I’m gonna go to jail, and I’m gonna be happy.

McCullough replied to her boss’s statements saying, “I’d pay to see that.” – and she’s not alone.

For nearly two years, Donald Trump and his right-wing supporters have thrown Pelosi under the bus without any real pushback. Painting the false narrative that she refused to act. The recent footage debunks all the lies – like that Pelosi had jurisdiction of Washington, D.C. National Guard – that power belongs to the President.

The public now has a chance to see who the good guys – or women – and bad guys were during the worst attempt to overthrow the government in recent history. Who put their service to this country over themselves and their own safety.

As far as the talking point that women are too emotional to lead – Pelosi’s top aide didn’t have to clean ketchup off the walls.
