CARTOON CANDIDATE: Herschel Walker's debate performance was as mind-boggling as it was incomprehensible

Friday night’s debate between Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and his Republican opponent Herschel Walker, could have easily been mistaken for parody. The battle over who will be representing Georgia in the United States Senate to a deep dive off the edge of reality, as the former NFL star’s rambling, incoherent and unintelligible responses left viewers shaking their heads.

“Because if you have an able-bodied job, you’re gonna have health care,” Walker stated when asked about Medicaid expansion.” Unfortunately, he didn’t stop there, adding, “But everyone else have healthcare is the type of healthcare you’re gonna get. And I think that is the problem.”

What?

Reverend Warnock kept his composure and dignity during the debate, despite his opponent’s ramblings. It was no question who the “adult” in the room was after the pastor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Church called the former University of Georgia star out on his constant lies. Warnock told the audience, “We will see, time and time again tonight as we’ve already seen – that my opponent has a problem with the truth.”

But it was the Senator’s calling out of Walker’s law enforcement claims, that apparently struck a nerve with his opponent.

“One thing I’ve never done – I’ve never pretended to be a police officer,” Warnock stated to applause, prompting Walker to “respond” by pulling out a fake police badge – prompting laughter from the crowd.

“I am wit’ many police officers,” the Senate hopeful added, to the condemnation of the moderator who reminded the debater that bringing “props,” is a violation of the rules.

Social media response to Walker’s performance was about to be expected, with most knowing that it was less of a contest than a spectacle – and that Walker is neither equipped nor qualified to be in the United States Senate.

The differences between Democratic and Republican candidates on the debate stage in recent weeks have highlighted that the two are not the same – not even close. That GOP candidates — Walker included — continue to have the majority support of MAGA voters is a disturbing indictment of what the Democrats are up against in the coming weeks.

It’s time to take the gloves off, and get in the ring — there’s work to do if democracy is going to be saved.
