URINE SANE: Dr. Oz shocks host with disgusting admission in late night interview

Dr. Mehmet Oz has raised eyebrows after admitting to tasting his own urine and blaming the University of Pennsylvania for it. Colleagues wasted no time ridiculing the Republican candidate for United States Senate for his wild – and quite frankly disgusting – claims.

Pediatric nephrologist, Stuart Goldstein, a University of Pennsylvania medical school graduate snarkily responded to the television quack’s claims that the prestigious school of higher learning “encourages” its M.D. candidates to drink their own urine.

“I must have missed the “taste my own urine” practicum day. Still graduated though,” Goldstein said.

On an episode of his now-canceled show, Dr. Oz, the friend of former talk show host Oprah Winfrey, told a guest that you could gauge someone’s health by their urine.

“Urine by the way – if you haven’t had anything fancy, has a sort of nutty smell to it. And it sort of tastes like it too,” he commented.

Comedian and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t help but ask Oz about his statements during an interview with the former surgeon. Kimmel repeatedly asked Dr. Oz “how he knows,” what urine tastes like, adding “who’s tasting it?” to the list of questions after the dog-killing physician said that the urine of diabetics tastes like “cherry wine.”

America’s once-likable TV doc’s admission isn’t as extreme or unbelievable as it may seem – for a Republican anyway. In January, “Vaccine Police” founder and anti-vaccine leader Christopher Key made debunked claims that drinking urine was a Covid-19 cure-all.

Key posted a video on the encrypted chat app Telegram hailing the practice.

“The antidote that we have seen now, and we have tons and tons of research, is urine therapy,” Key said in the video. “I know to a lot of you this sounds crazy, but guys, God’s given us everything we need,” The Daily Beast reported.

Others weren’t so sure.

“I’m a kidney doctor. I’ve studied how the kidneys make urine for 39 years. Do not, I repeat do not, drink urine to treat COVID. That is all,” Nephrologist Jon Klein tweeted.

Actor and comedian Patton Oswalt chimed in:

The revelations about Dr. Oz shouldn’t surprise anyone. The New Jersey resident has a reputation for hawking “miracle” weight loss cures, making unfounded claims that apple juice is somehow harmful, and pushing hydroxychloroquine as an effective treatment for the coronavirus – something that was debunked over and over.

“In the early months of the pandemic, Dr. Mehmet Oz, the celebrity physician with a daytime TV show, positioned himself as one of the chief promoters of the drugs on Fox News. In the same be-the-best-you tone that he used to promote miracle weight-loss cures on The Dr. Oz Show, he elevated limited studies that he said showed wondrous promise,” The New York Times wrote.

Oz went on Fox News over two dozen times in two months during the early days of the pandemic, parroting the right-wing talking point that most assuredly contributed to the spread of the deadly virus and countless preventable deaths from it.

Since announcing his run for Senate, Mehmet Oz has gone from being one of Oprah Winfrey’s popular trio of celebrity doctors to being one of the GOP’s most embarrassing candidates – and his opponent John Fetterman’s whipping boy. If we’re lucky, maybe Oz will return to his real home – here’s a hint, it isn’t Pennsylvania. Maybe he can then treat himself to a course of urine analysis.
