BRONX CHEER: New Yorkers tell Ted Cruz exactly what they think of him — and it ain't good

The New York Yankees lost their chance to go to the World Series last night, losing to the Houston Astros 6-5 in the final game of the American League Championship Series. Watching the Astros complete their clean sweep of the series was Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), on hand to lend the Texas AL champions his support in a territory largely hostile to anyone supporting any team other than the Bronx Bombers.

Surely anybody who wasn’t a diehard Yankees fan would be met with hostility and disdain in the heart of their home stadium, but those diehard fans in the Bronx recognized the interloper from Texas and let Cruz know that it wasn’t just his taste in baseball teams that they vehemently disagreed with.

Upon seeing Senator Cruz being escorted from his seats by a security team that included several people wearing Yankee caps — presumably to placate the locals — Yankee fans let loose with a torrent of well-deserved verbal abuse aimed at the extremist Republican senator that indicated that they were well aware of his right-wing political stance.

“Fuck you, you racist piece of shit!” one fan screamed at Cruz in a distinctive Bronx accent captured in a TikTok video that has since gone viral. “Fuck you, fuck you, man!” he continued.

“You suck, you fucking suck,” another fan chimed in. “You’re a disgrace!”

“You fucking suck, dude!” the first fan agreed.

It got worse.

The fan who began the tirade against Cruz decided to throw one of the most humiliating moments of the 2016 GOP presidential race into the Texas senator’s face.

“Remember when Trump called your wife ugly?” he taunted. “Remember that? Remember when Trump called your wife ugly and you nominated him? Fuck you, you fucking piece of shit!””

Cruz ignored the heckling and waved and shook hands with the few people —probably Houston Astros fans — who were happy to see him there.

Still, the hecklers were undeterred.

“You ugly piece of shit! Go to hell! Get the fuck outta New York!

Multiple videos captured the crowd’s reaction, as you can see in the clips posted to Twitter included below.

It wasn’t just the fans at Yankee Stadium who responded to the presence of Ted Cruz with jeers and derision.

The senator also made an appearance on ABC‘s The View this morning that elicited such a vocal reaction from the studio audience that ABC was forced to mute the audio to drown out the boos and taunts and quickly cut to commercial.

No one really expected Cruz to get a favorable reaction in deep-blue New York City, but the depth of the derision that the city’s inhabitants displayed during his visit to their fair city is heartening to this Bronx-born writer.

New Yorkers can see charlatans coming from miles away. We warned the nation about Trump long before he set foot in the Oval Office.

Hopefully, the reaction to Ted Cruz will set an example that the rest of the nation will heed this time around.
