EXCLUSIVE: Beaten Marco Rubio staffer's FB posts are extremely racist

A canvasser for Marco Rubio apparently suffered quite a beating over the weekend, but new details keep emerging to cast the story in a different light. First, it was merely the police report contradicting Rubio’s story on certain details, but now the staffer is being revealed as a man who likes to make extreme racist comments — and who attempts to provoke others into fights.

The Rubio canvasser in question is presumed to be Christopher Monzon, who is also known by some alternative names, including “the Cuban Confederate” and “Chris Cedeno.”

He says he’s not a white nationalist, but he has a long history of severely racist comments on his social media, and there’s video evidence of his history of provoking fights.

For example, there’s this post on a Facebook page running under his alias, where Monzon shares an image of an old, racist toy — it’s a shooting set in which the targets are labeled “Five Little [N-slur] Boys.”

Monzon/Cedeno shares this without comment — but it’s not the only time the racial slur comes up in his posts.

In one trio of posts over the course of a few days, Monzon complained of being called a racist for hating people he calls “n****rs,” played with inserting the N-slur into Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sheriff” lyrics, and complained of America being home to “[N-slur] and queers.”

In yet another post, he praises the Ku Klux Klan as the “few brave men [who] saved Dixieland.”

Yet, that’s not all. In some posts, he seems to almost censor himself, switching to the word “Negro” instead — but even so, the posts include a declaration that neither “a negro” nor a woman will ever be equal to him; and that it’s a waste of time to reason with “a negro” and that violence must be relied upon instead.

Of course, no matter how racist, a physical attack cannot be justified by social media rhetoric.

However, it’s Monzon’s other actions that raise questions about his version of events.

For instance, in this video clip from 2017, the provocateur seems to boast that, rather than making a physical move himself, he provokes others into violence.

  • “I wasn’t gonna attack him,” Monzon says, “because I wanna know the implications for myself, okay? However, I did dare him to attack me.”

The Miami New Times provides more information about Monzon’s penchant for provocation:

“‘You are a cancer on the face of the earth!’ Monzon shouted. ‘All Jews are!'”

“He then ran directly at the crowd with a flagpole pointed toward the protesters. Cops were filmed tackling Monzon and taking him away Monzon in handcuffs.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center documents more of this, describing Monzon as shouting, “Come on, motherf****er, come on!” before being tackled by police, and, in another incident, shouting slurs about a man’s Jewish heritage while jabbing at him with a flagpole, then striking him in the head after the victim’s efforts at self-defense tore the flag away from its pole.

He ran for local office himself last year, claiming that he’d left all the racism behind, while also arguing that the organization he’d been a part of — The League of the South — was never really a white supremacist organization anyway, despite his own actions, and those of the group as a whole, providing evidence to the contrary.

The group may not use the term “white supremacist,” but they’ve complained about what they call “the browning of America,” among other things.

There’s also no real evidence that Monzon made any personal changes.

From the Daily Dot:

“He admits to belonging to a Telegram group comprising other Confederaphiles and says he’s a proud member of Save Southern Heritage Florida. A recent post on the Facebook account he created in April was liked by eight people…as publicly identified members of the League of the South.”

Meanwhile, he’s working for a Senator who has refused to condemn the Proud Boys extremist group, even after their role in the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

From American Bridge:

“On Friday, WPLG-TV threw Florida U.S. Senator Marco Rubio a softball: Are you ‘OK with Proud Boys serving on the Miami-Dade GOP committee?’”

“Sadly, his answer will not surprise you:”

“‘I won’t condemn members of the Republican Party.'”

One individual (not four “animals” as Senator Rubio claimed) was arrested for assault after the incident this weekend.

Owing to Monzon’s past, it may take more time and information to determine just what really happened.

EDITOR’S NOTE & CORRECTION: This story was edited after publication to correct the designation of Monzon as a “staffer” in the headline and story when he is only presently known to be a canvasser for the Rubio campaign at this time.
