DESPICABLE: Biden slams GOP's lack of urgency on combatting rising political violence

President Joe Biden got emotional when talking about the violent attack on House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband, 82-year-old Paul Pelosi.  At a Pennsylvania fundraiser on Saturday, the president told the crowd, “There’s no place in America for this.”

Erupting into applause, the crowd apparently agreed.

“Enough is enough is enough,” Biden said, “Every person of good conscience needs to clearly and unambiguously stand up against the violence in our politics, regardless of what your politics are.”

“There’s too much violence — political violence — too much hatred, too much vitriol, and what makes us think that one party can talk about stolen elections, COVID being a hoax, that it’s all a bunch of lies, and it not affect people who may not be so well-balanced? What makes us think that it’s not going to corrode the political climate?”

The attack on the husband of the Speaker of the House sent shockwaves among the Democratic community in what many see as a culmination of years longs attacks on Madame Speaker from the right.

The subject of violent memes and rhetoric across far-right social networking media, Pelosi was a confirmed target of the January 6th mob. Evidence presented during the televised Congression hearings showed the Secret Service withheld death threats they uncovered at least two days before the attack.

President Biden made the connection, remarking on reports that the perpetrator – 42-year-old David DePape – was looking for Speaker Pelosi, yelling “Where’s Nancy?” multiple times. The same words were used by rioters who breached the Capitol.

“It’s reported, the same chant was used by this guy they have in custody, that was used on January 6 in the attacks on the U.S. Capitol. ‘Where’s Nancy? Where’s Nancy? Where’s Nancy?'” Biden stated.

“This is despicable,” he added.

Baseless conspiracy theories surrounding the brutal assault have been circling on the right. While some in the GOP have condemned the violence – without acknowledging their perpetuating of it – others have continued to downplay the spread of unproven claims, despite police reports to the contrary – including unfounded accusations that it was a “lover’s spat gone wrong,” between Pelosi and his attacker.

Former Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA), and current CEO of Donald Trump’s Truth Social social media platform, received backlash after tweeting a picture with the caption, “At least this guy has his clothes on.”

Unlike his predecessor, who never missed an opportunity to punch down, President Biden continues to prove the best “man,” won on November 3, 2020, sending words of support to Madame Speaker and her husband.

“We’re praying for him. We’re optimistic for his full recovery,” Biden said.

Mr. Pelosi was asleep in his home when DePape broke in. He managed to trick the intruder and make a call to 911 before being beaten with a hammer. His assaulter has been charged with attempted homicide and elder abuse. Pelosi is recovering from brain surgery.
