SPITE SUIT: Trump retaliates against NYAG with another frivolous filing

Donald Trump is suing New York Attorney General Letitia James again, after she asked a court to prevent him from hiding assets in his financial fraud case. His previous similar lawsuit against her failed, and a court has already been asked to sanction him for frivolous filings intended to promote an agenda or exact vengeance, rather than to seek justice.

Trump claimed on social media that he was filing the lawsuit because A.G. James was “go[ing] after” his trust and estate plan, appearing to refer to her request for the court to appoint someone to oversee his finances. She argues that there’s evidence (such as his recent formation of a new corporation called “Trump Organization II”) that the former president is trying to transfer assets ahead of a judgment.

Trump filed a similar lawsuit in New York in December of 2021, only to have it dismissed earlier this year. He’s elevating that case to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Meanwhile, he could already be facing sanctions for filing frivolous lawsuits. After a lawsuit he filed against Hillary Clinton was thrown out, the former Secretary of State has requested that the court deem the case a “political stunt” and impose sanctions accordingly.

Trump’s lawsuit alleges that James is carrying out a personal vendetta and has no legal justification for her office’s investigation of him — despite the information she has already gathered on his allegedly fraudulent business practices, and the guilty plea entered by his former CFO.

Bloomberg reports:

Trump filed suit in Palm Beach Circuit Court Wednesday evening. The complaint came just before a Thursday hearing in New York over James’s motion for an order blocking Trump from moving assets and appointing an independent monitor to oversee his family real estate business.

The lawsuit looks a lot like the one filed in New York last December, which goes on for several pages to complain that James is a Democrat, has used the “#Resist” hashtag, and promised to bring Trump to justice if she was elected.

From the exceptionally whiny new filing:

James has repeatedly abused her position as Attorney General for the State of New York to pursue a relentless, pernicious, public, and unapologetic crusade against President Trump, a resident of Palm Beach County, Florida, with the stated goal of destroying him personally, financially, and politically…Defendant cannot demonstrate any state interest let alone a compelling one for interfering with President Trump’s right to privacy as her true interest lies in her personal vendetta against President Trump that she has relentlessly pursued both before and after gaining office.
