MICHIGAN TERROR: Democratic Attorney General may be forced to flee home if she loses

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is afraid the state will no longer be safe for her after her ultra-MAGA opponent says he wants to jail the Democrat if he wins the race. Democrats have expressed concerns about rising political violence as death threats and violent rhetoric heat up. not just in Michigan, but throughout the country.

“I’m running against a guy who has the endorsement of the Republican Party in Michigan, who has made part of his platform wanting to imprison me, the [Michigan] secretary of state, and the governor of Michigan,” Nessel said. “He has said repeatedly that that is his plan.”

Trump-endorsed GOP candidate Matthew DePerno took a page out of his idol’s playbook – calling for the unjustified incarceration of his political rival if elected, running attack ads against Nessel that could have been written by the former president.

DePerno reportedly met with Trump administration State Department officials in Washington, D.C. on January 6th – the same time the insurrection was unfolding. A vocal election denier, the candidate for Attorney General wrote in a questionnaire from the far-right nationalist group, America First, claimed he was there briefing then-Secretary Mike Pompeo’s staff on how the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.

“In the America First questionnaire, DePerno wrote he ‘will not only prosecute all those involved and responsible for voter fraud, he will end government lock downs and mask mandates, and is committed to protecting the civil liberties of all Michigan residents, state’s sovereign rights, and return us to our Founders’ concept of a Constitutional Republic.’”

Nessel says she has even considered whether she would flee Michigan for another state if she loses the election because DePerno is so intent on her eventual prosecution if he succeeds in winning.

“I don’t know that it’s safe for me to stay in this state,” Nessel said, according to VICE News.

As the state’s top prosecutor, Nessel has previously been the target of threats related to her work, but they were nothing like this.

“In the last 24 hours, I had somebody come by my house, then get out of their car, went on the lawn and started taking pictures of my house,” she said to VICE News in an interview earlier this year while she was on the campaign trail. “It’s a scary time, there’s no question about that.”

During her three years as Attorney General, Nessel was tasked with enforcing Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s COVID-19 mandates. Mass anti-lockdown protests erupted across the state during the height of the pandemic, with the Michigan State Capitol being breached by armed militia members.

Nessel also successfully prosecuted several members of the Wolverine Watchmen who were involved in the plot to kidnap Governor Whitmer from her vacation home and torture — and potentially murder — her.

After the Jan. 6th Capitol riot, calls for violence and inciteful rhetoric have gone largely unchecked. Encrypted communication platforms like Signal and Telegram have become ground zero for hate speech and organizing among fringe groups chomping at the bit to “punish” those they don’t agree with.

DePerno is currently under investigation for allegedly tampering with voting machines. The Kalamazoo lawyer is accused of illegally accessing voting tabulators in a failed attempt to prove “voter fraud.”

Nessel recused herself from the case, requesting a special prosecutor in August. In a letter to Michigan Department of State Secretary Jocelyn Benson, Nessel wrote:

“Ultimately, our investigation uncovered that, after the 2020 election, a  group of individuals gained unauthorized access and compromised tabulators from the following clerk’s offices: the Roscommon County Clerk, the Richfield Township  Clerk, the Lake City Township Clerk, and the Irving Township Clerk. All  unauthorized access occurred between the dates of March 11, 2021, and late June of  2021. All impacted tabulators have been seized as evidence as part of our  investigation and decommissioned from use in any future elections.”

“We have requested the appointment of a Special Prosecuting Attorney (SPA), to review the case for the issuance of possible criminal charges against several of the individuals involved.”

Attorney General Nessel has been steadfast in her commitment to preserving democracy and prosecuting those attempting to subvert it.

Violence in politics is never okay. It’s time to hold domestic terrorists accountable for their actions, and their rhetoric regardless of who they are.
