PUTIN CRONY: “We have interfered, are interfering and will continue to interfere” in US elections

Yevgeny Prigozhin, a close ally of Russian president Vladimir Putin, just publicly admitted to interfering in U.S. elections, and there has been no response from U.S. politicians.

Replying to accusations first posed by Bloomberg, Prigozhin, known as “Putin’s chef” since he handles much of the dictator’s catering, stated that not only has Russia interfered in U.S. elections but that it does so regularly and has no intention of stopping.

“We have interfered, are interfering and will continue to interfere,” he posted on the Russian social media platform VKontakte, adding that they intend to do so “carefully, precisely, surgically and in our own way, as we know how. During our pinpoint operations, we will remove both kidneys and the liver at once.”

Prigozhin’s comments come on the tail of a decision by our FEC — previously reported by Occupy Democrats — that allows for Russian money to enter into American elections, so long as those behind it first set up American companies – even if 90% of the money involved in establishing those companies comes from Russia. A statement from the Republicans on the FEC, in fact, is practically a blueprint for how this can easily be accomplished.

Prigozhin is the brains and money behind Russia’s Internet Research Agency, which, according to our State Department, is “a troll farm most often recognized for repeatedly attempting to interfere in U.S. elections, but also involved in and spreading disinformation worldwide, including in Africa.”

And he’s also the head of the Wagner Group, the shadowy paramilitary organization that does a lot of Putin’s dirty work because it can operate outside of the (nominal) law in Russia. The private army of this group is a key part of Russia’s separatist efforts in Ukraine and has been active in Syria and throughout Africa as well.

Meanwhile, Republicans seem hardly bothered by the prospect of Russian interference, so long as it serves their needs. They’ve repeatedly downplayed the Russian threat even as Putin’s minions have continued to sow discord.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has promised that, if the Republicans take back the House, there will be no more “blank check” for Ukraine – a sentiment that has to be music to Putin’s ears. Other prominent Republicans who have continually dismissed Russian interference include the insurrectionist Lee Zeldin, current GOP candidate for governor of New York.

And then, of course, there’s Sean Hannity, who answers the question (as John Oliver might say): What would it be like if a megaphone and a pompadour had a baby?

What say you now, Sean Hannity? Is Prigozhin lying too? Or are you, as usual, too busy kissing Donald Trump’s backside to pay any attention?

Sean Hannity is surely not a fan of Ross. But you can follow him on Twitter! And he certainly appreciates it! @RossRosenfeld
