GOP CHAOS: Speaker Pelosi knows why Republican Kevin McCarthy will struggle to lead his party
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), master of subtle shade, doesn’t believe that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) — if he takes over her role in the new Congress — will be able to lead effectively. She explained that her party has a significant advantage over his in the House, regardless of numbers: unity.
The Republican Party is a house divided, Pelosi hinted, explaining that it’s possible to be a leader while holding only a slim majority, but it requires more unity than the right is currently exhibiting. Her party has had success with such a small lead, she says, but only because they shared the singular goal of “being there for America’s families,” and placed that in priority over their differences.
She compared the two parties, pointing out the advantages Democrats have in having a diverse array of voices, with new incoming members from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. She also emphasized that it’s necessary for the two parties to think less about winning, and more about their oaths of office — and their duty to serve the American people.
Pelosi also explained that her party, in holding the House, worked to make legislation bipartisan, but that members’ votes didn’t always reflect that, suggesting that not everyone in Congress shared the goal of placing the outcome and the success of America over the success of a partisan win.
Pelosi explained:
“It depends on their purpose. In our House, we had those kinds of numbers, but we were united. We were very united in terms of being there for America’s working families. That dominated our discussion. Although we have our differences of opinion on certain issues, when it came down to the main purpose of the Democrats, for America’s working families, there was no question that we would win every vote we took to the floor.”

In other highlights from her Sunday appearance on ABC‘s This Week, Pelosi also threw her full support behind a Biden run for re-election and refused to say whether she’ll seek a leadership role within her party in the new Congress. She says that she’ll wait to see exactly how the House shapes up as the last several races are settled before making any decision
