CUTTING CLASS: Madison Cawthorn ABANDONS his job and heads for Mar-a-Lago
Madison Cawthorn didn’t fare well over his single term in Congress, and he seems to have given up on the job before it’s even officially over, reportedly packing up his office and going incommunicado even though his term doesn’t end until January.
With nearly two months to go, Cawthorn seems to have opted out of Congress, packed up his office, tossed out the detritus of a half-hearted political career, and headed — well, not home. Instead, he’s been spotted at Mar-a-Lago, rooting for the disgraced twice-impeached former president to be the president again.
In fact, the one office that is still taking calls is reportedly rerouting most of them to a Congressional call center, or to voicemail.
That’s not to say he’s spending more time there than in his North Carolina offices, though — instead, he’s been selecting proxies to vote on his behalf fairly frequently.
There are things, though, that Cawthorn does find time for, like posting a bleary-eyed post-Mar-a-Lago trip video on his Instagram, where he rambles wildly about Trump’s foreign policy, treasure overseas, and Joe Biden apparently wearing the clothes of a dictator.
From The News & Observer:
“On October 6, he was supposed to speak at a Duplin County GOP banquet — but he missed it in favor of spending time in Florida to help victims of Hurricane Ian. When Ian hit North Carolina, he was the only congressman who didn’t sign on to ask Biden to declare a state of emergency.”
He was spotted again in Florida Tuesday night, in the audience of Trump’s announcement of a third presidential run, after which he posted a video so bizarre he went viral, not only for his words, but for lighting and filter choices that seem to enhance the appearance of lightened hair, reddened face, and bleary eyes.
“I don’t really want a president who is just loved and gonna be hugged on and wear the exact same clothes as some frickin’ communist dictator does in China. I want a president who people are terrified of,” Cawthorn bizarrely ranted.
Leaving Mar-a-Lago, failed congressman Madison Cawthorn lectures Rs who won’t get behind his hero: “I will follow this man until the day I die. This man has bled for us, fought for us. I want a president who people are terrified of, who’s gonna push people out of the way.” pic.twitter.com/AiivV5Tp8a

Cawthorn seems to be referring to false rumors that President Joe Biden wore an outfit in the style of Mao Zedong when he met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, mistakenly conflating Biden’s donning of a traditional Cambodian shirt during a meeting in that host country.
The AP reports that Biden actually wore a typical suit and tie when meeting with Xi.
Rumor-mongering aside, Cawthorn seems to have selected different priorities on his way out of office, an exit that was perhaps in the cards from the moment he started telling the public his fellow Republican legislators were spending their time in cocaine-fueled orgies.
Maybe he’ll find a place in Trump’s third campaign. Then again, Trump’s golf courses always need caddies.
