MEDIA DUMP: Trump is running but the love is gone

Donald Trump has announced his bid for the presidency, but without the support of any of his former media allies, it will be an uphill race — and the news networks are already letting him know they’re not behind him, from a media mogul reportedly giving him the word directly, to right-wing news outlets using TruthSocial to let him know he’s out.

It’s not a good sign when Fox News labels the only officially declared Republican candidate for the 2024 election a “three-time loser,” and even more so when they make the declaration on that candidate’s own personal social media site. Yet that’s exactly what the network — which used to be Trump’s top choice to call in and vent his spleen — did.

Still, it’s also not a complete shock after Rupert Murdoch reportedly openly warned Trump he wouldn’t back another political run. Instead, his media companies seem to be turning their attention and support to Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor and 2024 presidential hopeful.

Another of Murdoch’s papers, the New York Post, slammed Trump by relegating his announcement to an inside column, referring to him as “Florida retiree,” “avid golfer,” and “famous for gold-plated lobbies and firing people on television.”

“Trump also served as the 45th president,” the biting column concludes, as seen below.

From the Guardian:

“We have been clear with Donald. There have been conversations between them during which Rupert made it clear to Donald that we cannot back another run for the White House,” a senior News Corp source told the i newspaper…Lachlan Murdoch, the heir apparent and eldest son, who co-chairs News Corp and runs the parent company of Fox News, has reportedly told DeSantis that the group would back him if he ran in the next election.

They aren’t the only ones dumping Trump, either — even his own daughter, Ivanka Trump, who joined him in the White House as a senior advisor, shared on her Instagram story that she won’t be hitting the campaign trail this time.

I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family…While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena.

Meanwhile, there may be other bars to Trump’s success. The Brookings Institution is predicting indictments in the Georgia probe, and the process has begun to ban him from holding office based on the insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment.
