THEY SAID WHAT? Media responds to Trump’s 2024 announcement with merciless mockery
After a terribly mad midterm election in which many of Donald Trump’s hand-picked, election-denying candidates went down, the former president decided to press ahead with his announcement that he is running for president again in 2024, despite multiple investigations pending against him and his business and relatively little enthusiasm for his return within the Republican Party.
In a rambling, sometimes incoherent speech from Mar-a-Lago, filled with many of the standard lies that have become familiar to us, Trump made the announcement in front of supporters.
It was met with a combination of dismissal and hilarious commentary from all corners.
NPR began its story by stating:
“Donald Trump, who tried to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and inspired a deadly riot at the Capitol in a desperate attempt to keep himself in power, announced he is running again for president in 2024.”
The Washington Post had a similar headline:
“Trump, who as president fomented an insurrection, says he is running again.”
Since Trump has had a complete falling out with Rupert Murdoch, he wasn’t even listed in a Fox News segment about possible 2024 Republican candidates, as Occupy Democrats previously reported.
Murdoch’s New York Post not only buried the announcement story on page 26 but covered it with nothing but a short, sardonic statement.

MSNBC decided to not even air the announcement.
I appreciate MSNBC's decision not to air the Donald Trump speech last night. No need to amplify the rhetoric of a man who sought to violently dismantle our 245+ year Democracy, particularly on the day when a NATO ally, Poland, has been struck by Russian missiles. Kudos, @MSNBC.

Those were the more dismissive gestures. Others were even more savage.

Looking forward to Donald Trump becoming a politically irrelevant Indicted Criminal.

Having to hold the attendees of your announcement speech hostage does not bode well for the enthusiasm level of the GOP for your candidacy.
Trump holding hostages during his speech is certainly a metaphor for his grip on the GOP. It's his party. https://t.co/X9i9bxRL3X

Keith Olbermann practically had a poli-orgasm about how bad things went, pointing out that even Trump’s closest allies abandoned him.
"If a Trump falls in the forest and no one is around to hear, does it make a sound?
"GOD! What an AWFUL speech! And don't take my word for it – listen to Mick Mulvaney trash it, and Ivanka quit politics during it!"

Even God got in on it:
Here is My #TrumpAnnouncement: he's going straight to the depths of hell the second he dies.

All in all, the response to Trump’s announcement among all but his most ardent MAGA fanatics was less than overwhelming.
It’s too bad that Trump can’t take a hint.
Perhaps Merrick Garland can have a word with him?
