“THEY HAVE THE CASE”: Former Trump AG Bill Barr throws his old boss under the bus…AGAIN
Former Attorney General Bill Barr has a short-term memory. How else do you explain Barr’s saying that ex-President Donald Trump is likely to be indicted by the current Dept. of Justice — for crimes he himself ignored while he was heading up the DOJ?
Barr told PBS‘s Firing Line host, Margaret Hoover, that former President Trump should “step aside in 2024, and that as far as the federal investigation into Trump’s actions, “Given what’s gone on, I think they probably have the evidence that would check the box,” he said. “They have the case.”
“If the Department of Justice can show that these were indeed very sensitive documents, which I think they probably were, and also show that the president consciously was involved in misleading the department, deceiving the government, and playing games after he had received the subpoena for the documents, those are serious charges,” Barr said in a PBS interview on Friday, shortly after current Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the appointment of a special counsel.

Garland has appointed veteran federal prosecutor John L. Smith (also known as Jack Smith), who was previously known for prosecuting war crimes at the Hague, as the special counsel to oversee the continuing investigations.
As the former head of the DOJ’s public integrity section, Smith, the previous acting chief federal prosecutor in Nashville, Texas during the Obama administration, vowed that “The pace of the investigations will not pause or flag under my watch.”

The former President’s handling of top secret and classified materials removed from the White House when Trump left office in January 2021 raised concerns among those tasked with preserving and protecting the country’s most sensitive documents.
Bill Barr, who served as attorney general in George H.W. Bush’s administration as well as Donald Trump’s, continued to support the ex-President in his efforts to weaponize the Dept. of Justice during his administration.

Barr used his position and power to bury the results of the Mueller investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election – sitting back and saying nothing while his commander-in-chief violated federal law in regard to the Hatch Act and the Constitution’s emoluments clauses.

A New York native, Smith – a Harvard Law School graduate – has long been committed to upholding the rule of law. He pledged to do his best to protect American citizens like his parents.
“They pay their taxes, follow the rules, and they expect their public officials to do the same,” Smith said.
Barr’s recent statements on the possibility of a Trump indictment are on brand with the former Attorney General’s attempts to rehab his legacy. Instrumental in covering up ex-President Trump’s continued flouting of the constitution, and federal law – shielding the serial grifter from scrutiny and prosecution during his tenure.
An accomplice at the highest level. If I was Barr, I would be careful what I wish for, the judicial apple doesn’t fall far from the federal accomplice tree.
For all his post-Trump era posturing, the twice-appointed attorney general told NBC’s Today Show that he would hands down throw his support behind whomever the GOP picks as the 2024 Presidential nominee — even if it’s Trump.
“I certainly have made it clear I don’t think he should be our nominee, and I’m going to support somebody else for the nomination,” Barr told POLITICO. “But “because I believe that the greatest threat to the country is the progressive agenda being pushed by the Democratic Party,” Barr added, “it’s inconceivable to me that I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee.”
So in the end, Barr just can’t quit Trump after all.
