FAMILY FIRST: Pete Buttigieg's husband SLAMS Tucker Carlson for homophobic attacks

Chasten Buttigieg, the husband of Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, is calling Tucker Carlson and the GOP out for their homophobic attacks on his husband.

On an episode of his Fox News show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, the right-wing pundit accused the former presidential candidate of lying about his sexual identity and using it to further an “agenda.”

“Pete Buttigieg wants to talk about identity, he always want to talk about identity,” Carlson ranted on his show. “And the funny, ironic thing is until just a few years ago, Buttigieg wouldn’t even admit he was gay. He hid that, and then lied about it for reasons he’s never been able to explain.

However, a few years ago alt-right militia groups weren’t storming drag queen story hours, scaring children, and committing regular acts of domestic and stochastic terrorism against the gay and transgender communities.

“I would just love for him to follow Secretary Pete on Twitter,” Mr. Buttigieg said. “He can follow along all of the things that are happening at the Department.”

“I just think these people, again, with the megaphones, they have a bit platform. And rather than focusing on real issues, people’s lives – making them better, they decided to focus on hate,” he continued.

Mayor Pete, a former United States Navy Reserve intelligence officer who did a seven-month tour in Afghanistan in 2014 – enlisted while the Department of Defense’s “don’t ask, don’t tell,” policy was still in effect.

“My husband served under “Don’t ask, don’t tell, which means that he would have been discharged from the American military had he come out of the closet,” Buttigieg told Lemon.

Enacted in 1994 during the Clinton administration, the discriminatory policy was rescinded in 2011. While the directive prevented discrimination against closeted members of the LGBTQ community, it banned openly gay members from serving in the armed forces.

The former First Husband of South Bend, Indiana tweeted a picture of his husband in his fatigues.

Secretary Buttigieg was thrust into the national spotlight during his run for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination and received support from both sides of the aisle.

The openly gay veteran and frequent Fox News guest has been vocal in his support of LGBTQ rights and condemned those who remain silent in the face of increasing harassment and violence from those he sees every day at the Capitol.

“Remember, this type of rhetoric is easy. It’s so easy to attack people and go on your talk show and fire people up about something that’s not actually happening,” Chasten said.

“I love my husband deeply,” Chasten added. “I know that he’s a committed public servant and he has everyone’s best interest at heart.
