POLITICAL VIOLENCE: Homeowner shoots teen Warnock canvasser

A teen canvassing for Sen. Raphael Warnock’s (D-GA) reelection campaign was shot Thursday night after a homeowner fired a gun through his door, hitting the 15-year-old.

Officers arrested 42-year-old Jimmy Paiz, charging the suspect with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

According to the Savannah Police Department, shortly after 5:30 pm, law enforcement arrived at the 500 block of Hartridge Street, located downtown, finding the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The department hasn’t confirmed a motive for the shooting or confirmed if it was politically motivated.

Though the teen’s injuries are not life-threatening, it makes the incident no less concerning.

Sen. Warnock is in a heated battle with opponent Herschel Walker for Georgia’s remaining United States Senate seat.

The Democratic Senator and Reverend have been campaigning heavily, drawing the support of heavy hitters like former President Barack Obama who spoke at a rally for the Reverend on Thursday.

Reports of a rise in political violence were seen leading up to the midterm election in November, with Democratic election workers and political candidates reporting an increase in threats, intimidation, and violent and hateful rhetoric.

Paul Pelosi, husband of longtime House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), was hospitalized recently after a conspiracy theory spouting assailant broke into the couple’s home – beating Mr. Pelosi in the head with a hammer.

David DePape, 42, was reportedly looking for Madama Speaker – repeatedly calling out her name.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was at the front door of the suspect’s home when shots rang out, striking the teen.

Paiz was located shortly after and taken to the Chatham County Jail.

“I am saddened to learn about this incident,” Sen. Raphael Warnock said, who faces off against Herschel Walker in the senate runoff. “I am praying for the victim and their family and wish them a full recovery,” WSAV Savannah reported.
