How Joe Biden is targeting antisemitism

Earlier this month, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who is Jewish, hosted a White House discussion on antisemitism and combating hate along with other Jewish leaders to address the dangerous rise in hate speech and antisemitic rhetoric in the United States, particularly over the last few months.

Now President Joe Biden has formed a new interagency group to develop a national strategy to combat antisemitism, the White House announced on Monday.

The Associated Press reports that the new group will be led by the White House Domestic Policy and National Security councils and “will consult with community leaders, government officials, lawmakers, and activists as it drafts a national strategy to tackle antisemitism and Holocaust denial.”

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre — who has been attacked for being both a Black woman and openly gay — released a statement regarding the strategy behind the formation of the group, which she says:

“will raise understanding about antisemitism and the threat it poses to the Jewish community and all Americans, address antisemitic harassment and abuse both online and offline, seek to prevent antisemitic attacks and incidents, and encourage whole-of-society efforts to counter antisemitism and build a more inclusive nation.”

President Biden’s response stands in stark contrast to his predecessor, who welcomed Nick Fuentes, a Holocaust-denying white supremacist, and Kanye West — who was banned from Twitter for tweeting an image of a swastika inside a Star of David — at his non-secure storage facility in Florida.

You might recall that soon after that meal, Ye expressed his love for Adolf Hitler in an interview with fellow Jew-hater and Holocaust denier Alex Jones.

Concurrently, Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets promoted an antisemitic film on social media (plus Amazon won’t remove it from its streaming service, yaaay).

Meanwhile, Nazi trolls are allowed to return to Twitter as new CEO Elon Musk grants “amnesty” to suspended accounts while silencing prominent liberal accounts, including yours truly.

I already know that whatever this group established by President Biden accomplishes, it’ll never fully end hate speech against Jews or anyone else. As a completely non-religious but still proud Jewish American, I’m grateful to have a Biden administration that sees me as fully human and supports my community.

I just wish the rest of the country did too.
