NO SAINT: Nassau County DA probes GOP Congressman-elect Santos

Republican Congressman-elect George Santos may be in even more hot water than he thought.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Connelly, a fellow Republican, has initiated an investigation into the known prevaricator, who was recently exposed in his lies by The New York Times. Santos’s district lies partially within Nassau County.

“The numerous fabrications and inconsistencies associated with Congressman-Elect Santos are nothing short of stunning,” the DA’s office told Long Island’s Newsday. “The residents of Nassau County and other parts of the third district must have an honest and accountable representative in Congress. No one is above the law and if a crime was committed in this county, we will prosecute it.”

This comes after a heated interview Santos gave with Tulsi Gabbard, who was filling in for Tucker Carlson on Fox News.

“I made a mistake,” Santos said, as if he had dropped the butter. “And I think humans are flawed and we all make mistakes, Tulsi. I think we can all look at ourselves in the mirror and admit that once in our life we made a mistake…and I have the courage to do so.”

Gabbard proved to be a stronger interviewer than ever she was a Democrat and held Santos’ feet to the fire, questioning whether he had any integrity whatsoever and if any of his background story is true.

“I didn’t materialize from thin air,” Santos told her. “I worked damn hard to get where I got my entire life.”

Perhaps he did materialize from thin air, like a Dickensian nightmare: as if Uriah Heep grew up and shtupped Ann Coulter.

Santos said he came from “abject poverty.” Maybe he did; maybe he didn’t. Who can tell for sure at this point?

Santos claimed he worked at Goldman Sachs – he didn’t.

He said he worked at CitiGroup – he didn’t.

He’s lied about his education, his religion, pretty much everything.

So what is the DA looking into?

Well, Santos went from lower middle-class to filthy rich extraordinarily quickly, going from making $55,000 in 2020 to at least $3.5 million the next year, and maybe as high as $11.5 million, as Mother Jones initially reported.

When Gabbard asked him about this, he said explaining it would go “well beyond the American people’s head.”

So Santos has a great combination of arrogance, assholery, and stupidity.

My question is: What don’t Republicans like? Really, he seems perfect for the party.

I’m almost surprised Ron DeSantis hasn’t offered him the VP position on the ticket already or that Donald Trump hasn’t had him down to Mar-a-Lago to be fawned over at a feast with “huge” pieces of delicious chocolate cake.

Maybe he and Donald can get to know each other more in prison.

One can hope.

Mr. Santos will probably hate Ross so much after this article that he’ll put on his resume that he murdered him and had his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti. But you can still follow Ross on Twitter! @RossRosenfeld
