THOUGHTLESS PRAYERS: MTG's well wishes ring hollow after no vote on cancer bill

In what appeared to be a moment of humanity, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted well wishes for her House colleague Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) after news of his cancer diagnosis.

On Wednesday, the January 6 Select Committee member confirmed he has lymphoma and will be undergoing treatment.

“We disagree often, but I’ll be praying for Jamie Raskin. Cancer is a terrible disease,” Greene tweeted. “I watched my father die from it, and it broke my heart. It’s good Rep Raskin has hope and his form of cancer is curable with the treatment he will be starting.”

What the ultra-MAGA conspiracy theorist leaves out is that she was one of two lone votes against a bill reauthorizing the National Marrow Donor Program in 2021.

The TRANSPLANT act – legislation that would pair bone marrow donors and cord blood units with patients in need – passed the legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support, CNN reported.

However, Rep. Greene, along with her frenemy Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), were the only two to vote no on the bill – and her reasoning is about what one would expect from the congresswoman who blamed Jewish Space Lasers for the California wildfires.

“Nothing in this bill prevents the funding of aborted fetal tissue by taxpayers,” Greene said.

Reauthorization of the National Marrow Donor Program and the National Cord Blood Inventory would insure database matches of those suffering from leukemia and other fatal blood diseases were kept for at least another five years, and there is no evidence to Greene’s claims.

The National Marrow Donor Program refuted the congresswoman’s baseless allegations.

“National Marrow Program (NMDP)/Be The Match does not use fetal tissue/embryonic stem cells for transplant or research. For more than 30 years, NMDP/Be The Match has helped facilitate more than 105,000 transplants for patients battling blood cancers and blood diseases. We only use cells voluntarily donated by either an adult donor or cells collected from the umbilical cord, which occurs only after a full-term delivery where both mother and baby are healthy and safe.”

Rep. Raskin is facing a battle, but one that can be won.

His form of lymphoma is thankfully curable.

Greene’s statement of support further highlights the hypocrisy the American people have become all too familiar with when it comes to Republicans – saying one thing, yet their actions prove otherwise.
