WASHED UP: Former GOP leader says Trump won't be the 2024 nominee--here's why

America is watching Donald Trump implode before our very eyes — but this has been true at least since his first presidential campaign, and it has been a surprisingly slow burn.

However, Republican former House Speaker Paul Ryan believes that he’s faded out, at least to a degree that will prevent him from becoming the 2024 nominee.

Trump, who announced his candidacy after last year’s midterm elections, still hasn’t held a rally, or done much at all that looks like campaigning.

Instead, he’s spending his time on Truth Social, having hissy fits about suffering all the consequences of his own actions — from investigations of his alleged election interference efforts to the investigation of his storage of documents at Mar-a-Lago, to his company being hit with fines for tax evasion.

Ryan not only said that he believes Trump won’t be the nominee in 2024, he laid out the reasons, and they all center around one point: Trump is a proven loser, election-wise.

Not only did he lose his 2020 election, but the party credits him with a heap of other losses since, including failing to take over the Senate in the 2022 elections.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has complained about the “candidate quality” of Trump’s nominees in the last election, and, while Republicans did gain narrow control of the House, as a former Representative, Ryan also affirms that he, too, sees Trumpism damaging the party’s potential.

He even credits Trump with handing the House of Representatives over to Democratic control in 2018. He told CNN:

“He’s fading fast. He’s a proven loser. He cost us the House in ’18, he cost us the White House in ’20, he cost us the Senate again and again, and I think we all know that, and I think we’re moving past Trump.”

Watch the clip below to see Ryan call Trump a loser, and explain why he doesn’t think that there’s a real chance of the former president advancing past the 2024 primaries.

Polling still leaves the question open, though, with recent analysis suggesting that Trump can still beat the leading potential contender, Ron Florida Governor DeSantis, if there are more than two options at the primary.
