SNL SURPRISE: Biden's SNL cameo contrasts with Trump's angry rants at comedians

Donald Trump’s term as president was marked, in part, by his complete aversion to being mocked, satirized, or criticized in any way, even to the extent of seeking to prevent comedy shows from portraying him. Now, President Joe Biden is setting an example (embedded below), showing how a real president handles being the subject of criticism and political humor.

Biden actually made an appearance on the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live — the same episode in which the show would later poke fun at the president over documents found at his Delaware home.

Unlike his Oval Office predecessor, Biden hasn’t responded with any rage-tweets attacking the show, or by seeking to punish the cast for making jokes.

After being included in Aubrey Plaza’s opening monologue, Biden was later one of the subjects of the SNL Weekend Update segment, where Michael Che and Colin Jost make light of current news.

They brought up the documents found at his home, and jokingly claimed that one of them was former President Barack Obama’s ‘real’ birth certificate, after a decade and a half of Trump and his ‘birther’ movement claiming Obama was actually born in Kenya.

In fact, even Biden’s cameo appearance was somewhat self-deprecating — he showed up in a video message to the White Lotus star, in which he congratulated her for being the most famous person from Delaware.

Can anyone imagine Trump — the man who boasted, after 9-11-2001, that his building was now the tallest in downtown Manhattan — praising someone else as more famous than himself?

By contrast, Trump raged over Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of him during his term as president, even tweeting out a complaint in 2019 that SNL’s jokes are “the real collusion” and calling for “retribution.”

It was hardly the only time Trump got upset about SNL, either — in fact, after he left office the nation learned that he had actually tried to get the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) or the Justice Department to shut the show down or force it to stop making fun of him, the Daily Beast reported in 2021.

Talk about thin skin.

Trump didn’t seem to mind the show when he hosted it in 2015 in the run up to his presidential race the next year.
