TOO SOON? Why Fani Willis doesn't want the Georgia grand jury report released

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has confirmed that the months-long grand jury investigation into whether Donald Trump and his loyalists tried to overturn the 2020 election results is about to bear fruit.

“Decisions are imminent,” Willis revealed.

DA Willis is opposed to releasing the special grand jury’s report due to ongoing deliberations in the case, citing the possibility of witness tampering and the need to ensure a fair trial unsullied by pre-trial publicity for any of the imminent indictees.

A judge is currently weighing the decision.

Testimony before the special grand jury began in June 2022 – with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger first on the deposition list.

After his 2020 election loss, then-President Trump attempted to pressure Georgia’s top election official to “find” 11,780 votes – just enough to give the outgoing President a victory in Georgia.

“Our vote is as important as anyone else,” Willis said in an interview with CNN in 2022. “If someone takes that away or violates it in a way this is criminal because I sit here in this jurisdiction it’s my responsibility.”

Trump allies Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have been questioned in the Fulton County District Attorney’s probe, both having testified before the grand jury, after strenuous attempts to avoid doing so.

Part of the grand jury’s purview was the 16 Georgia Republicans who were involved in a scheme to send fake electors to cast their electoral votes for Trump instead of duly elected President-Elect Joe Biden.

The Georgia prosecutor has floated pursuing RICO – Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations – charges in the investigation that could bring down the former President and those working on his behalf as participants in a criminal enterprise.

Like a dog with a bone, Willis has been steadfast in pursuing the case against Donald Trump and his enablers.

Keeping things close to the vest, the Georgia District Attorney has been committed to protecting the integrity of the state’s voters.

“It’s important for people to know that the prosecutor’s office does not write the presentment, traditionally. It literally is the will of the people,” Willis said.

The special grand jury’s report has been completed, but it’s up to DA Willis – and a court – to decide whether or not to release it to the public.

Though the grand jury has expressed wanting to release the report, Willis isn’t required to follow the panel’s recommendations, according to CNN.

After seven months of testimony, one thing is certain – Fani Willis is nothing if not shrewd. The District Attorney’s decision to withhold details of the special grand jury’s findings should be taken at face value.

Willis said that “Decisions are imminent.” We should believe her.
