MAJOR ERROR: How Sidney Powell lucked out and avoided disbarment
Former Trump attorney Sidney Powell was given a last-minute Hail Mary after a Texas judge threw out a disbarment lawsuit against the QAnon-adjacent, election-denying conspiracy theorist.
On Thursday, Collin County District Court Judge Andrea Bouressa dismissed the Texas Bar’s complaint against Powell for failing to meet the burden of proof.
According to Bouressa, the plaintiffs failed to appropriately number materials cited in the Bar Commission’s brief
“The commission’s motion had listed exhibits A through F, but the ‘actual documents attached to the response were marked Exhibits A through H, and did not match the documents described in the brief,” Business Insider reported.
The vocal election denier came under scrutiny for her efforts to help then-president Donald Trump overturn the results of the 2020 race.
Wild conspiracy theories and baseless claims of voter fraud saw nearly five dozen frivolous court cases tossed by various courts in the financially draining effort.
Appointed in 2019 by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Andrea Bouressa won re-election in 2020 for a four-year term on Texas’ 471st district court bench as a Republican.
Bouressa admitted to dismissing a majority of the evidence due to discrepancies in the order of the Bar Commission’s exhibits.
“As a result, just two of the documents cited by the Commission were considered,” Insider reported.
Judge Bouressa left the door open for the Bar to file an appeal.
Powell isn’t the only Trump attorney to face accountability for pushing unsubstantiated claims of mass voter fraud.
Disgraced attorney and former law professor, John Eastman is facing 11 charges lobbied against him by the State Bar of California, and a criminal referral by the Jan. 6 Select Committee to the Dept. of Justice.
The man formerly known as America’s mayor, Rudy Giuliani, recently had his law license suspended and is still in the disbarment danger zone for his role in the attempted coup plot.
Giuliani is also a subject of multi-billion dollar defamation suits brought by Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic for pushing false claims that the voting machine companies were complicit in a complicated scheme concocted with Democrats to steal the presidential election.
Though Powell managed to escape the clutches of justice in this instance, the crackpot attorney’s legal problems are far from over.
With her fellow cohorts Eastman — the architect of the plan to pressure then Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify the election — Jeffrey Clark, and Alina Habba finding themselves on the wrong side of the Justice Department – and the courts – the self-proclaimed “Kraken” could still face discipline for her frivolous claims.
