BARBARIC: Texas Republican puts a dangerously detestable price on drag queens

Somehow, drag queens are the latest scapegoats for the super-repressed party of self-hating closeted freaks.

The MAGA Morons are using them now because they need a scapegoat to blame bad things on when they can’t go after Black women or Jews.

Republicans are always the problem, blowing up the smallest dumbest things into giant talking points to distract from the real issues plaguing this country which they caused in the first place.

At the same time, more and more MAGA “men” are being exposed for their downlow lifestyle, like Randy McNally, the Lt. Governor of Tennessee, who just can’t stop commenting on a thirst trap’s Instagram account.

Or the actual Governor of Tennessee, Bill Lee, who knows how to twerk it, sis.

Or Matt Schlapp, who’s been repeatedly and credibly accused of making sexual advances toward younger male staffers and is currently the target of a sexual harassment lawsuit.

Now meet Texas MAGAt, state rep. Steve Toth, who I imagine has a secret Panic Room full of pretty dresses and a makeup table to rival RuPaul’s, because he’s introducing a bill that would give citizens the power to get drag queens arrested for essentially existing.

Toth is so terrified of his (probable) true nature that he’s seeking to make it legal to define “a cause of action for drag performances performed in the presence of a minor.”

According to the bill, “An individual who attends a drag performance as a minor may bring an action against a person who knowingly promotes, conducts, or participates as a performer in the drag performance that occurs before an audience that includes the minor.”

A winning plaintiff can expect to be paid actual damages, attorney’s fees, and statutory damages of $5,000.

The bill states that civil action can be brought up to ten years after the offending event.

So Tiny Toth is saying that a parent who takes a child to a drag show in 2023 can decide to sue that drag queen in 2033 if that child ever comes out.

Opponents of the hate bill rightly say that this will turn terrified Texan Trumpers into even more hateful bounty hunters.

Meanwhile, Tiny Toth blocked me on Twitter while I was still writing this, so that sums up the mentality of the kind of people we’re dealing with.

I spend far too much time wondering what our country might look like if these repressed freaks gave themselves permission to live authentically instead of deeply in the closet. Instead, we get this.
