ARRAIGNMENT PLANS: Secret Service and NYPD meet to coordinate Trump surrender

Secret Service and NYPD meet to coordinate Trump surrender

The official word from Donald Trump’s attorneys is that, if he’s indicted this week, he’ll surrender himself to authorities in New York. Now the New York City Police Department and Secret Service are coordinating plans to process the former president’s arraignment while keeping everyone else safe amid the expected protests.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office is expected to announce an indictment sometime this week, and Trump has already reached out to his following on social media to plead for their protection in the form of protests — prompting concerns about a potential repeat of January 6th.

The difference, though, is that this time Trump isn’t in a powerful position, and the relevant police forces are preparing in advance to avoid violence.

If Trump holds true to his attorney’s promises, an agreement could be reached for his surrender, with him traveling to New York and turning himself in, potentially negotiating to do so as privately as possible.

By doing so, he could avoid being photographed in handcuffs, and perhaps expedite the process — though his team says there’s no deal yet.

What he’s done so far, though, is to call for his fans to protest and “take our nation back” — not exactly sentiments suggesting an acknowledgment of culpability.

D.A. Bragg has responded with a letter to employees of his office, advising them of measures being taken to ensure safety. The missive explained, in part (full letter below):

“We will not tolerate attempts to intimidate our office or threaten the rule of law in New York. Our law enforcement partners will ensure that any specific or credible threats against the office will be fully investigated and that the proper safeguards are in place so all 1,600 of us have a secure work environment.”

He goes on to share that the office is coordinating with the NYPD and with the Secret Service to ensure safety and address threats.

However, Team Trump has not been as involved in planning and negotiation, according to a CBS report (below).

Apparently, those close to Trump are concerned that there have been no agreements reached to avoid a “perp walk” and handcuffing with a voluntary surrender.
