SHUT YOUR MOUTHS: Why is Mike Huckabee warning Trump associates not to snitch?

Some of Donald Trump’s closest allies may be forced to answer questions as the Department of Justice considers conspiracy charges for January 6th — and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has a little advice.

Huckabee says that people connected to politics need to practice loyalty AND learn to keep their mouths shut.

After the news broke that one of Judge Beryl Howell’s last acts, before passing the case to her replacement in supervising the grand jury, was to rule in favor of the Justice Department on a request to force a long list of Trump allies — including Stephen Miller, Mark Meadows, and other top aides from his presidency — to testify about conversations and other activity leading up to January 6th, Huckabee took a moment out from his show to address the values he says are most important in politics.

If you assumed he was going to go for integrity, honesty, and equality, you’re in for a surprise.

Instead, Huckabee suggested that folks facing hard questions should err on the side of loyalty and remember who has done favors for them.

It sounds familiar — loyalty is one of the traits Trump touts as most valuable, too, at least in those around him.

The other trait Huckabee recommends is a bit more sinister, in the context of a federal investigation of an attack on the U.S., though.

He calls for discretion and confidentiality, and he specifically says that anyone who has information that could hurt another person should keep it private.

“Trump, like a lot of us, thinks that somehow loyalty matters in politics…be loyal to the people who helped you, and learn how to keep your mouth shut if you have information that could be hurtful to someone. Be confidential,” Huckabee stated.

This sounds suspiciously similar to “Omerta,” the code of silence enforced by the Sicilian Mafia with deadly consequences for anyone foolish enough to violate it.

Though Huckabee stated this all in a rant about Ron DeSantis, it sounds a lot less like it’s actually about the Florida Governor — who has upset Trump by being a potential election opponent, rather than by spilling any confidential or incriminating information — than about an impending indictment (or several).

It also comes at about the same time that news was revealed that the DOJ’s case against Trump and others might be leaning into a conspiracy case.

You can see the CBS report below, along with Huckabee’s warning to those who might say things “that could be hurtful” to the former president.
