WHITEWASHED: A Florida school just banned this because one fragile white parent was offended
The weather forecast for Florida calls for a constant blizzard of delicate MAGA snowflakes falling everywhere all at once in a blanket attempt to send the state back to the darkest of ages.
In just the last week alone, we learned about a Tallahassee charter school firing a principal over an art lesson while the state continues its attempt to literally whitewash its history as it also works overtime to censor drag shows and anything else that might trigger mediocre white conservatives.
Now an uptight Florida woman is the lone complainer about the film “Ruby Bridges,” because . . . Florida.
Ruby Bridges was the 6-year-old Black girl who integrated New Orleans schools in the 1960s, but uppity Emily Conklin–who is also the development director for the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg–wrote that the film wasn’t “appropriate for second graders” because students “might learn that white people hate Black people.”
Um…sorry to break this to you, Emily, but there are white people who hate Black people.
I know that sucks more than I can write in one article, but it’s true and it’s also really important to teach kids NOT TO HATE EACH OTHER.
The film, which was released in 1998, had been part of Black History Month lessons for years without any controversy.
The same district also banned Toni Morrison’s novel “The Bluest Eye” after one parent complained about a two-page rape scene.
Sadly, the Pinellas County School Board gave in to this one lone complaint instead of educating the masses about systemic racism in America.
ONE PARENT.
BECAUSE FLORIDA.
The MAGA cult mentality has taken hold of the swamp state full of alligators on cocaine, with triggered Trumpy parents all over Floriduh challenging factual materials that depict or explore racism and LGBTQ issues.
All because of repressed freak Gov. Ron “Don’t Say Gay” DeSantis and his fellow repressed freaks in the Florida GOP.
A call into Conklin’s office on Monday went unreturned, but Twitter was on fire with the hot takes on the latest Floriduh freakery.
Emily Conklin, Development Director for the YMCA of greater St. Petersburg filed the complaint. This would be very contrary to YMCA beliefs of today. How does the @ymca feel? Emily seems not to be upholding the DEI beliefs that are right on their website. https://t.co/b4PSYzLPj3

2nd graders can’t learn about a 1st grader making history. “…Emily Conklin wrote that the use of racial slurs and scenes of white people threatening Ruby as she entered a school might result in students learning that white people hate Black people.” I mean… pic.twitter.com/zMXWgDm0Hc

What is additionally frightening is that the parent involved here, Emily Conklin, is development director for YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, which does great work on the front lines of our community.@DavidDjezek, does she really reflect the values of your organization? https://t.co/mu04cah9yu
