OP-ED: 60 Minutes needs to stick to profiling legitimate politicians
When I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, 60 Minutes was “appointment television.”
Every Sunday night, my father (a college dropout who drove a truck) would go out to get Chinese food, which we would then inhale while watching the revered news magazine. It didn’t matter what the stories were about; my father had put the (all male at the time) hosts — Mike Wallace, Harry Reasoner, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, etc — on an untouchable pedestal, and we were to learn from them.
60 Minutes still tries to coast on their 50+ years of cred, but oh, how the mighty have fallen in the post-Trump times.
Thirsty for clickbait and ratings, the show’s Twitter account released a preview of an interview scheduled to air on Sunday, April 2nd, conducted by longtime host Lesley Stahl, who got all kinds of cozy with domestic terrorist Marjorie Taylor Greene.
No, really, they’re giving a free platform to a self-identifying White Christian Nationalist who has credibly threatened America’s national security.
I’m guessing Lesley Stahl didn’t include this clip of Marjorie Nazi Greene bragging about plotting January 6th at the White House before she was even sworn into office.

Will Stahl’s story mention that Marjorie Nazi Greene has questioned whether 9/11 happened, called into question Barack Obama’s citizenship, and suggested that John F. Kennedy Jr. was assassinated by Hillary Clinton because they both were up for the same New York Senate seat?
Then there’s her whole ladyboner for dead kids and her obvious gun grooming, but it sounds like Lesley didn’t go there with Marjorie Manson.
Instead, the 60 Minutes Twitter account sent out this fluffy bit of business: “Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, nicknamed MTG, isn’t afraid to share her opinions, no matter how intense and in-your-face they are.”
