FINES: Fundraising by Jan 6th insurrectionists under DOJ scrutiny
The Justice Department is seeking to impose heavy fines on the January 6th Capitol insurrectionists who appear to have misused funds they raised for their defenses.
A new court review from the Associated Press shows that DOJ prosecutors are increasingly asking judges to impose big fines on top of their prison sentences.
Most of the fundraising efforts appeared on GiveSendGo, “The #1 Free Christian Fundraising Site,” aka MAGA Grift Central.
GiveSendGo is like if GoFundMe was fine with White Nationalism, which is why it’s become a haven for domestic terrorist defendants.
The rioters who attempted to overturn Joe Biden’s legitimate election always portray themselves as the victims of “government oppression” in their grift campaigns.
Some have raised upwards of $25,000 and more thanks to the continued Big Lie that the 2020 election was somehow stolen from Donald Trump when more people just voted for Biden.
However, most of the self-anointed “political prisoners” have government-funded legal representation while cooperating with the DOJ, and guess how much that costs them?
While the DOJ acknowledges that the January 6th rioters had the right to raise money to cover any legit legal expenses, that’s clearly not where the grifted donations went.
In just one example, a Virginia man describing himself as a “January 6th P.O.W.” is scheduled to be sentenced next month for assaulting police at the Capitol.
Markus Maly had raised more than $16,000 from his GiveSendGo “for his family,” as he claimed in his campaign.
But because Maly had a public defender and did not owe any legal fees, DOJ prosecutors have requested a $16,000-plus fine at his sentencing hearing.
Welcome to the finding out part, MarKKKus!
There are currently more than 1,000 criminal cases related to the January 6th riot on the DOJ’s docket, so watch for more of these fines to be implemented at the sentencing of the convicted insurrectionists.
In recommending 1-month in prison for Jan 6 defendant Jon Mott, feds lean into argument that Mott hasn't shown remorse. They say Mott has "GiveSendGo campaign in which he claims that he & other January 6 rioters have been mistreated" by police
And they say it's raised $14,000+ pic.twitter.com/bQNbkKgH7A
