“NOT WANTED”: Auto Workers Union says Trump isn’t welcome at picket line

Just because two candidates have both said they’re making the trip to visit striking autoworkers, it doesn’t mean their reception will be equal.

Donald Trump tried to claim credit for President Joe Biden’s planned trip to support auto workers striking in Detroit, and now it appears Trump himself may not even make the trip.

On Monday morning, after learning that he’s not receiving a warm welcome from United Auto Workers (UAW) leadership, Trump went off on a wild rant, claiming that workers shouldn’t trust Biden and that if they throw their support behind him instead, he will make them rich.

Presumably, these workers recall that Trump was already in office once and that they didn’t get rich under his leadership then.

By contrast, the UAW president has said he hopes President Biden will show up and demonstrate that the Democratic Party is the party of the working people.

That doesn’t mean Biden’s support is absolute, or that there’s no support for Trump — there are absolutely employees, as in most blue-collar jobs, who still inexplicably vote Republican against their own interests.

UAW leadership, however, says Trump’s not welcome on the picket line, and that they don’t believe he’ll show up in Detroit anyway. Politicus USA reported:

“The president of the United Auto Workers told Trump that he was not wanted on their picket line, but the odds of Trump ever showing up in Detroit itself instead of a red suburb were zero.”

The Trump campaign, well aware of the party’s anti-union stance, has already indicated the trip will focus on workers who are not members of the UAW.

Meanwhile, Trump has been posting in a jealous rage.

On Saturday, he tried to take credit for Biden’s trip, with a post claiming that Biden had no intention of going to Detroit “until I announced that I would be heading to Michigan to be with them, & help then [sic] out.” He declared:

“If the UAW “leadership” doesn’t ENDORSE me, and if I don’t win the Election, the Autoworkers are “toast,” with our great truckers to follow.”

By Monday morning, though, Trump seemed to have gotten the message that he’s less welcome, and blasted out again, inadvertently admitting that Biden (unlike himself) is actually likely to join picket lines.

He said (edited for readability/all caps; full post available in screenshot below):

“When he slowly walks to pretend he is a ‘picket,’ remember, he wants to take your jobs away and give them to China and other foreign countries! Turn your back on this corrupt and highly incompetent president…and shout out to your union leadership to endorse Donald J. Trump. I will keep your jobs and make you rich!”

He’s already clashed with the UAW president, who is warning the public that electing people like Trump will just ensure more of the same struggles. CNN reported:

“Every fiber of our union is being poured into fighting the billionaire class and an economy that enriches people like Donald Trump at the expense of workers,” UAW President Shawn Fain said in an emailed statement. “We can’t keep electing billionaires and millionaires that don’t have any understanding what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to get by and expecting them to solve the problems of the working class.”

Here’s Trump’s full unhinged post from Monday morning, as he realized his presence is unwanted.
