NO EVIDENCE: Some Republicans concede that Biden impeachment plans are bogus

The first step is evidence; without evidence, there is no second step — at least in the legal system.

Even Congressional Republicans can admit it (as long as they’re off the record or anonymous). An impeachment of President Joe Biden, without any actual evidence of corruption or wrongdoing, would be inappropriate and extrajudicial.

That isn’t stopping them from touting it on social media and right-wing news, of course.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, whose position has been on thin ice since before he achieved it, tweeted a clip of himself over the weekend referring to what he calls “Biden Inc;” claiming to see “a culture of corruption,” and hinting that he’d go forward with the impeachment process, focusing on an assurance that he believes the American people deserve answers.

What he’s not saying, though, is that he’ll bring impeachment to a vote, or that there’s sufficient evidence to go forward with it.

Other Republicans are admitting it’s not feasible — with some blaming McCarthy, and others openly confessing that there’s no evidence. CNN reports:

“[O]ne GOP lawmaker, granted anonymity to speak more freely, offered an even blunter assessment: ‘There’s no evidence that Joe Biden got money, or that Joe Biden, you know, agreed to do something so that Hunter could get money. There’s just no evidence of that. And they can’t impeach without that evidence. And I don’t I don’t think the evidence exists.’”

McCarthy has also refused to answer whether he can garner the votes necessary to impeach the president. He dodged it by pointing out that the House is in recess and argued this will have to be determined when they return to session next month.

The efforts that Congressional Republicans have actually made toward impeachment so far aren’t coming from those with the most experience in the political and legal system, either.

For instance, Representatives Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) have both filed impeachment documents.

Boebert’s, earlier this year, was based on the conflict between her views on the U.S.-Mexico border and Biden’s actions on the same, and while she was able to force an initial vote on considering it, the filing was then sent to committees to die in obscurity, according to PBS.

The upshot is that Republicans are under a lot of pressure to support impeachment, but for those who know what they’re doing, at least, they’re not a fraction as willing to support it in chambers as they are on Fox News.
