FORGET THE AIRPORT: Dems propose renaming Florida prison after Trump

There’s no official word on whether Representative Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and his re-election-seeking House Republican colleagues thought up naming an airport after the twice-impeached ex-president facing dozens of felony charges all by themselves, or if the man already found liable for sexual assault, defamation, and business fraud had any input. Either way, it’s clear that Donald Trump loves the idea, which he’s posted about multiple times on social media and declared a “great honor.”

Now, three House Democrats have produced a counter-offer, presenting legislation that would instead slap the Trump name on a prison — “the only honor he truly deserves,” as Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA) calls it.

Connolly, along with Representatives Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) — who may be the Congressional king of Trump trolling — and John Garamendi (D-CA), dropped the proposed legislation on Friday.

It’s virtually identical to Reschenthaler’s proposal to rename the Washington Dulles International Airport, a very simple and to-the-point name change bill, except that it would instead change the name of the Miami Federal Correctional Institution in Florida. In a public statement, Congressman Connolly explained:

“I see no reason to wait. Donald Trump faces nearly 100 felony charges. He has been found liable of sexual abuse and, subsequently, for defaming the victim of that abuse. He has been fined hundreds of millions of dollars in a civil fraud case. It is only right that the closest federal prison to Mar-a-Lago should bear his name. I hope our Republican friends will join us in bestowing upon Donald J. Trump the only honor he truly deserves.”

Representative Moskowitz added, “Everyone knows President Trump loves to write his name in gold letters on all his buildings.”

While Trump has not done any time in the Miami prison so far, his ally Peter Navarro is spending a few months there right now for defying a Congressional subpoena regarding Trump’s actions surrounding January 6th.

Congressman Garamendi noted, “MAGA Republicans have proven themselves unwilling to solve real problems that face our country….As always, my Democratic colleagues and I remain willing to work with anyone on commonsense solutions to real world problems.”

Trump has not responded to this proposal, but his niece, Mary Trump, posted her approval on Twitter, saying, “Hey Dems: more of this, please.”
